Ensuring that all children are learning through safe and uninterrupted quality education is a main priority for Save the Children Norway (Redd Barna). Conflict and natural disasters, economic poverty and discrimination create obstacles for generations of children to access education. Lack of qualified and sufficiently supported teachers means that even children who access schooling do not have access to actual learning and fulfilment of their psychosocial and developmental needs. Through our education programming, as well as advocacy and strategic partnerships, Redd Barna works together with governments, partner organizations, communities, parents and children to ensure safe quality learning for all. We are part of the international Save the Children movement, and have close thematic as well as operational cooperation across the wider movement.
Due to vacancies, we are now seeking two advisers to join our Education section;
- Senior Adviser Education
- Senior Adviser Education in Emergencies
Both positions are permanent. The senior advisers will contribute to Redd Barna’s strategic work within education programming, both in humanitarian and development contexts, ensuring the highest programme quality in all supported programmes.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Main deliverables (both positions):
- Contribute to achieving Education strategic goals through education or integrated programmes in line with Save the children Norway’s (SCN) and the global strategy
- Support program development of strong and evidence-based programs, and new and innovative approaches
- Ensure we reach the most marginalised children by strengthening the cross thematic issues in our programmes; including gender; children with disabilities; participation and accountability; and partnerships
- Provide technical support and capacity-strengthening and sharing with colleagues at country offices and in SCN, actively participating in country teams and other relevant teams
- Support in proposal development and design
- Identify, evaluate, and pilot contextually relevant technology in partnership with country office staff
- Ensure that programs funded by SCN are developed, implemented, evaluated and reported on in close collaboration with partners, as well as facilitating partnership support to country offices as needed.
- Participating in evaluating and capturing learning across programs globally
- Engage in internal and external networking and coordination, and represent Save the Children Norway in relevant foras
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Academic qualifications at master’s level in a relevant discipline (extensive relevant experience may compensate for lack of academic qualifications)
- Experience working with global education/education in emergencies programming, solid knowledge of education policies and frameworks and strong technical capacities in education planning and programming
- Field experience from working with education programming in fragile or complex contexts and/or humanitarian responses is desirable
- Strong skills in proposal writing, programme design, monitoring tools, results documentation and reporting
- Experience with designing and delivering capacity building/mentoring and technical support to colleagues and partners in implementing countries/humanitarian responses is an asset
- Experience with programming to promote gender equality and inclusion of vulnerable groups, such as children with disabilities, is an asset
- Fluency in English, both verbal and written, and good writing and speaking skills. Knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic and a Scandinavian language is an asset.
