In the GRC General Secretariat in Berlin, you will help shape the future direction of the GRC as a national Red Cross Society and umbrella organisation of non-statutory welfare organisations. Every day you contribute to ensuring that people in Germany and around the world receive help – solely according to the degree of need.

At the next possible date, we are looking for you as a Security Risk Management Manager (f/m/d). The position is within the International Cooperation area of ​​the GRC headquarters in Berlin and is assigned to the Planning and Risk Management team. The advertised position has been additonally created to further strengthen GRCs duty of care and crisis incident management.

To ensure the integrity and effectiveness of our humanitarian aid and development cooperation and the long-term capacity strengthening of our sister national societies, enforcing increased security management and duty of care requirements is crucial. As a security risk management manager, you will play a key role in ensuring that our employees worldwide can act responsibly and in a context-appropriate manner.

The employment is fulltime (39h/week). The employment offer is initially limited to 2 years. An extension of the employment relationship is sought.

Key Responsibilities

  • responsible for providing comprehensive security risk management advice and support staff in the field and at HQ
  • Monitor the security/threat environment and provide advice in changing contexts
  • Support and coach staff in country and at HQ in drafting and updating security regulations, SOPs and contingency plans
  • Carry out security risk and threat assessments
  • Ensure that all field staff and travelling HQ staff are aware of prevailing security threats and advised on means to reduce their vulnerability to those threats
  • Respond to/follow up on security incidents and assist HQ and field in incident analysis and staff communication/measures
  • Monitor training needs and provide or source general and/or specific training
  • Contribute to GRC international crisis management set up
  • co-organise simulations and drills to test the system for crisis and/or security incident management
  • Co-lead the GRC Surge Security pool in a technical capacity
  • Establish and maintain effective liaison relations with movement partners (IFRC, ICRC, national societies), humanitarian security focal points of the wider humanitarian network, embassies and private actors.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant University or Higher Education Degree
  • Be committed to a person-centered security risk approach and a sound institutional duty of care framework
  • Sound knowledge of security practices with proven experience in security risk assessments, security planning and crises management in the humanitarian context
  • Several years of work-related experience in the professional security, business continuity, NGO or UN working at international level with international agencies, INGO’s, governments, military, law enforcement or private sector
  • Demonstrated success in incident management
  • Experience with staff safety and mental well-being areas
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English. German and further language skills is an advantage
  • Commitment to the humanitarian principles of the Red Cross Movement
