Mission

In situations of armed conflict, Geneva Call, as a neutral, impartial and independent international humanitarian organization, endeavors to strengthen the respect of humanitarian norms and principles by armed non-State actors, in order to improve the protection of civilians, while supporting local communities in their efforts to enhance their own protection. Appel de Genève/Geneva Call is a private, not-for-profit, humanitarian organization foundation under Swiss law, founded in 1998.

Role

Security Focal Point is responsible for supporting the Head of Mission and the team on security risks and relevant procedures.

Main activities

Context and Incidents follow up:

  • Follow up context in all operational areas;
  • Follow up security incidents in all operational areas;
  • Produce security context analysis.

Movements follow up:

  • Ensure Movement Risk Analysis is developed correctly and reflects all the risks ;
  • Advice the team on movement by developing mitigation measures;
  • Follow up the team during the movement;
  • Rapport any loss of communication to HoM according to SoP communication rules.

SoP & Briefings:

  • Brief all the new arrivals on SoPs and Security Rules of the mission;
  • Follow up the staff to ensure that the SoPs are well respected;
  • Suggest changes in SoPs if/when relevant.

Country security plan:

  • Contribute to the regular (every 6 months or in big changes in context) update of CSP.

Conteyxt and Risk Anaylisis:

  • Contribute to Context and Risk Analysis for new areas of operation of GC;
  • Support HoM for analysing the context and risks.

Reporting:

  • Contribute to monthly Sitrep on security and context analysis;
  • Weekly context and security update report;
  • Support in developing Incident report with contribution of the staff involved in incident.

Trainings:

  • Participate in security related trainings suggested by line management.

Networking and Representation:

  • Participate in weekly security NGO meetings;
  • Participate in monthly Exera meetings.

Main qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a security role and/or a humanitarian context;
  • Previous experience working in complex and volatile contexts;
  • Proven and documented results delivered that are relevant to the position’s responsibilities;
  • Knowledge about personal leadership skills/profile;
  • Strong communication skills, including fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Languages

  • Excellent English skills (written and oral) and any other local or relevant language is an asset (Ukrainian, Russian, etc.).
