Security Advisor (male/female/diverse) (Ukraine)

The “Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Deutschland (ASB)” is a German aid and welfare organization working in areas such as rescue services, civil protection and social services. Since its foundation in 1888, ASB has acted as a politically and denominationally independent association.

ASB’s Foreign Aid Department provides humanitarian aid through offices in 30 countries worldwide. ASB has been implementing humanitarian interventions in Ukraine since the beginning of the conflict in the East of the country in 2014.

ASB in Ukraine is currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and committed individuals for the following position:

Security Advisor (male/female/diverse)

The Security Advisor will be the security focal point within the organisation and will develop security concepts and contingency plans for ASB and its implementing partners in Ukraine as well as monitor the security situation in the project region to ensure the safety of the project staff and activities of ASB.

Duration: 12 months (possibility of extension)

Start: Earliest possible

Location: Lviv

Vacancy: National or International position

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop security-related documents (e.g., security concept, evacuation plan, contingency plan) for ASB and its implementing partners
  • Ensure that security documents are up to date and in line with ASB´s Safety and Security Policy
  • Provide security trainings to ASB staff, partners, and volunteers
  • Brief new staff and visitors on security procedures
  • Coordinate with the Civil Military Coordination (CIMIC), INSO and other relevant stakeholders
  • Plan safe routes for the movement of project staff and logistics in the target areas
  • Prepare security reports and regularly update the senior management about changes in the security situation
  • Asses the security situation and provide relevant recommendations to senior management to make informed decisions related to the project implementation
  • Represent ASB at security-related meetings

Key Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum three years of relevant work experience in security management, preferably in a national or international humanitarian NGO
    • University Degree in a relevant field or equivalent studies in military or police academy
  • Knowledge & Skills:
    • Understanding of and willingness to adhere to ASB policies and general humanitarian principles (CHS, SPHERE, etc.)
    • Understanding of the current security situation in Ukraine
    • Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
    • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
