General job description:

The project will aim to advocate for a paradigm shift away from youth as victims or perpetrators of violence and towards supporting youth as a force for peacebuilding. The overall objective will therefore be:      To facilitate the social integration of youth at risk of recruitment to violent extremism within governorates of Kirkuk. Salah al-din, and Anbar.  The theory of change is the following:

If vulnerable youth (IDPs, returnees, secondary displaced, CAAFAGs) aged 15-24 years old have the social competency skills (around self-awareness, leadership, advocacy, conflict management, and art for peace), then youth can become peace agents within their communities; thereby supporting social integration of marginalized youth and decreasing the risk of recruitment to violent extremism. The aim of the project will be to enable Vulnerable youth (age 15-24) attain relevant social competency skills that support social integration between returnees and host communities.

HEKS/EPER is looking for an art coach to provide visual art classes to youth in detention and in the community.

HEKS/EPER expects its personnel to behavior in accordance with local culture and traditions. The incumbent assures the moral protection of the name of HEKS/EPER and upholds in all circumstances the interests of the organization.

HEKS/EPER intervenes without any affiliation to politics, religion, or financial profit. The incumbent will direct his or her activities and engagements without preoccupation of political, racial or religious affiliation.


General responsibilities:

The SALAM YOUTH Project Art coach is responsible to bring out ability by identifying needs and planning and implementing suitable training programs in detention centers in Kirkuk. Whatever the context, coaching involves developing the participants’ physical activities and providing the best possible practical conditions in order to maximize the youth performance.

S/he works under the direct supervision of the SALAM YOUTH Project Manager.

Main responsibilities:

  • Evaluating performance and providing suitable feedback, balancing
  • criticism with positivity and motivation.
  • Assessing strengths and weaknesses in a participant’s performance and identifying areas for further development.
  • Adapting to the needs and interests of group or individual participants.
  • Communicating instructions and commands using clear, simple language.
  • Demonstrating an activity by breaking the task down into a sequence.
  • Encouraging participants to gain and develop skills, knowledge and techniques.
  • Ensuring that participants always train and perform to a high standard of health and safety.
  • Inspiring confidence and self-belief.
  • Developing knowledge and understanding of fitness, injury, sports/art psychology, nutrition and sports/art science.
  • OR Developing knowledge on arts, handcraft as designated by the program curriculum.
  • Acting as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the youth you work with.
  • Liaising with other partners in performance management, such as physiotherapists, doctors and case workers.
  • Always Working to a high legal and ethical standard, particularly in relation to issues such as child safeguarding and health and safety requirements.
  • Regularly arrange assessment and ask the feedback from the youth.
  • Ensure proper record keeping of all activities.
  • Periodically collect data and regularly update individual monitoring files of the Program’s beneficiaries.
  • Keep proper records of expenditures and report on these to the line manager.
  • Communicate and collaborate in accordance with the communication contract.
  • Communicate with the delegation, zones and beneficiaries and keep them informed.
  • Participate in the management of the program’s activities, according to the strategies for reaching the objectives.
  • Identify the problems associated with the delivery of the program and inform HR, logistics, beneficiaries.
  • Attend and take part in the meetings necessary for passing on information for the smooth running of activities.
  • Help his/her line manager in setting up the activities schedule every week.
  • Use program resources effectively and with care.
  • Facilitate to mobilize local resources and do maximum use of them.
  • Be responsible for his/her own continuing training to develop his/her skills.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Academic degree in Art required, etc.).
  • The ability to communicate effectively with children and adults and express oneself in a clear and concise way.
  • Good command of Arabic, Turkmani, Kurdish and English are required. (Kirkuk local languages is an added score for the participants)
  • Superior organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and to take initiative, with a result-oriented approach and positive attitude.
  • At least one year of humanitarian experience is required. Previous NGO experience, and especially case management experience, is a distinct advantage.
  • Proficient capacity building skills and previous capacity building experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Reliable to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, effective in representation and liaison with external parties.
  • Ability to work in unstable, uncertain or potentially dangerous environments, independently and in a team.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication and resilience skills.
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail, and time management.
  • Ability to cope with stress, including working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Commitment to and understanding of HEKS/EPER’s vision, mission, values, and principles.
  • Must be culturally and gender-sensitive both in personal interactions and communication.
  • Understanding of the development and humanitarian contexts in Iraq. Knowledge of Iraqi’s regions would be an advantage.
