Geneva Call

Mission

Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence. Geneva Call is currently focusing its efforts on banning the use of anti-personnel mines, protecting children from the effects of armed conflict, prohibiting sexual violence in armed conflict and the protection of the medical mission.

Role

Under the supervision of the Support Coordinator, The purpose of this role is to ensure that Geneva Call and local personnel are working within an environment consistent with accepted minimum safety and security standards. This encompasses the development of security plans and of mainstreaming the individual and collective sense of security and safety awareness and responsibility. It also consists of advising the Country Director on security challenges, developing risk assessments and proposing risk reduction measures in addition to developing, maintaining, updating and implementing when necessary, security protocols and operating procedures according to the changing situation.

Core responsibilities

Country teams are supported in designing contextualized security frameworks for their region:

  • To support GC country offices with identification of threats & analysis of risk levels. This will in turn help teams to identify informed and nuanced Risk V Benefit levels (personal/institutional risk levels compared to humanitarian relevance of the activities).
  • To implement security plans including risk analysis, risk reduction measures (S.O.Ps & site protection), incident management and contingency planning in GC country offices.
  • To conduct theoretical and practical (simulations & ?on site?) trainings for risk reduction measures, incident management and contingency planning.
  • To coach and train GC staff (international & national) to understand the environment within which they are working and risk management tools to minimize GC teams’ exposure.
  • To support the HORs and HOMs in developing standardized GC Security management formats and tools and trainings including their implementation in countries/HQ.

Main qualification

Education

  • Completed Degree of Higher Education in relevant fields such as Law, Social Sceiences or business administration.

Work experience

  • At least 5 years in a similar position.
  • Experience with international organisations is preferred.
  • Experience dealing with bilateral and multilateral donor funding.

Technical skills

  • IT Tools (MS Office, Excel, accounting software, Reporting tools); Financial and Human Resource Management tools.

Languages

  • Required: English, Dari and Pashto.

Personal skills

  • Have strong knowledge of Afghanistan context.
  • Risk analysis ability.
  • Able to prepare complex security plans for country.
