The Opportunity

The Safety and Security Coordinator position is a unique and professionally challenging role. Working within one of non-accessible areas of Türkiye for direct implementation, this position offers the selected candidate unprecedented opportunity to support the implementation expansion and maintenance of partners operations in a context currently at the heart of world politics, and all with a capable and committed team.
Working under Governmental Relations, Safety & Security Advisor, the positions require the management of kinetic and non-kinetic risk across a portfolio of partner led programmes in order to enable Access. The successful candidate will require to contextually adapt and then implement SCI Global safety and security standards and policy in a dynamic and complex context.

The Safety and Security Coordinator will have direct communication line with partner’s security focal points and LHA teams, whose role encompasses both traditional INGO safety and security management as well as various liaison and negotiation tasks that are critical to operating in Türkiye.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

Essential

  • University degree in political science, international relations, humanitarian law, human rights, conflict studies, social sciences or related field,
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in line with the job requirements, including experience in international organizations,
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and represent at all levels, establish information and security networks, and coordinate with country authorities, donors, International organisations and local NGOs, to build collaborative relationships internally and externally with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, social and political issues
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a highly stressful and challenging environment, balancing between multiple competing priorities, with willingness and ability to function under changing work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams,
  • Experience of working in hostile environments,
  • Proven ability to undertake safety & security risk assessments,
  • Ability to formulate and communicate analysis of a changing security environment.
  • Proven skills in concise and succinct report writing,
  • Proven knowledge of MS office applications and IT literacy and capacity to learn and use other packages,
  • Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in English and Turkish, with experience in working with multicultural teams
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin all aspects of the job. Commitment to Save the Children child protection policy. Ability to articulate humanitarian principles as a basis for ensuring access.

Desirable

  • Previous experience as an NGO Security staff,
  • Experience in designing and delivering capacity strengthening initiatives (trainings, workshops, coaching etc.),
  • Operational experience in post war / disaster affected environments with NGOs, military, police or similar organizations,
  • Communication skills (both written and spoken) in Arabic language.

Position holder will be based in Gaziantep & Hatay, therefore legal right to work in Türkiye is necessary at the time of application.
