BACKGROUND:

African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization that takes on the complete responsibility for the rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. We currently manage 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering over 20 million hectares in: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Sudan.

Chinko’s mosaic of ecosystems is one of the incredibly rich and unique area in African continent. In fact, the Chinko Conservation Area (CCA) is an important area for endangered wildlife as well a vast ecosystem with complex interactions and is the only managed protected environment in the remote eastern part of CAR.

Most recently, a “functional landscape” of about 64’645 km2 which the government of the CAR assigned the mandate to APN to develop a comprehensive conservation strategy and land-use plan.

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are looking for an experienced bush pilot to work in a challenging and remote area. This role will require the incumbent to perform pre- and post-flight inspections, fuel management, equipment and navigational systems management, and operate our aircraft safely at all times.

MAIN ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Carry out all flights needed as required by the operations of the project
  2. Take full responsibility for the safety and operations of the flights
  3. Organize any work that needs to be done on airplanes
  4. Take the lead on organizing any regional authorizations required
  5. Take full responsibility for the maintenance and continued airworthiness of the aircraft, respect the maintenance schedule and assist appointed maintenance engineers on site. Duties to include the daily cleaning and continued care as well as sourcing equipment or parts that might be needed
  6. Maintain flightfolio/logbook and admin up to date
  7. Be available as a relief pilot on other aircraft as required to serve the regional aerial support function.
  8. Knowledge of Rotax engines and LSA / ULM maintenance would be an asset but not mandatory
  9. When the pilot is not flying, he is expected to support the project regular operations (such as but not limited to, support in logistics, administration, IT, training of staff, sourcing of materials, etc.).
  10. Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Required licenses issued by the applicable Civil Aviation Authority or any other recognized aviation body, with ratings / certification on Cessna C182, Cessna C206, Savannah and Bathawk aircraftMinimum 500 hrs total fixed wing flight time and rated on C206, C182 and Savannah / Bathawk;
  • Valid and current instrument flight rating;
  • Valid and current night rating;
  • Valid Class 1 medical certificate;
  • Desired LSA / ULM aircrafts experience;
  • Demonstrable experience in bush flying and remote operations and willing to be based in a remote area with minimal infrastructure and support
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in English;
  • Strong capacity to manage time and competing priorities;
  • Strong initiative, perseverance, and resilience;
  • Good team player with experience working with multicultural teams.
  • Strong personal integrity and dependability
  • Knowledge and passion for conservation and wildlife
  • Strong commitment to safe, efficient and compliant remote aerial operations.

Fully functional, safe and legally compliant aerial operations with:

  • Full responsibility for the safety and operations of the flights; and
  • Full responsibility for the maintenance oversight of organisations’ aircraft.
  • Zero preventable incidents / accidents and exemplary safety record
