
Penny Appeal
We are looking for a motivated, organised, diligent and flexible Safeguarding Officer, who is good with people, eager to learn and is interested in developing their skills in safeguarding. A good solid writer, with solid interpersonal and good communication skills.
The Safeguarding department is a relatively new department. Our aim is to build a strong and successful safeguarding team to support colleagues in all of Penny Appeal’s UK and overseas work on safeguarding to keep the children and adults at risk we work with, our staff and volunteers safe from harm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work as part of the Safeguarding team to ensure that the organisation fulfils all of its duties with regards to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults, engaging with all directorates across the organisation, both in the UK and abroad, as well as the Board of Trustees.
- Support the delivery of our safeguarding strategy across the whole organisation, track progress and share developments.
- Support the Director with general administration, such as diary management, monitoring work flows, writing correspondence, filing, collating information.
- Support case work, such as recording information, logging actions, liaising with colleagues.
- Provide practical support and assistance to staff and volunteers wishing to raise concerns or seek help and guidance on any questions regarding safeguarding policies, procedures and processes.
- Support with the administration and planning, preparations and roll out of safeguarding training for staff (communications, presentations, forms etc.).
- Any other tasks as required.
Note, this role will require a degree of flexibility should a safeguarding concern/emergency arise out of hours and a quick response is required (working under the direction of the Director).

Required
- Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience
- At least two years administrative support experience
- Superb writing skills
- Ability to work under pressure with competence and pace to contribute to making critical decisions for the protection of others
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection and an awareness of the key legislation that informs safeguarding practice
- Able to multi-task and prioritise workload
- Confidence working online and in the digital environment
- Attention to detail
- Team player and positive attitude when working with others
- Adaptable and flexible in working style
- Problem solver
- Welcomes diversity
Desirable

- Knowledge of Islamic financial matters (Zakat, Wakf, Qurbani etc.) – Experience in working in international development, child protection or safeguarding, and/or a fundraising organisation
