Posting Summary

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Director of Administration. This individual will function as the chief non-physician executive in the Department of Neurosurgery, and is charged with the development of a corporate

style of operations that supports the mission of the School. In conjunction with the Chair, The Senior Director of Administration is responsible for the financial and operational integrity of the department through the stewardship of institutional resources, the recruitment of a professional senior management team and the implementation of appropriate budget control, business planning and program/practice development strategies. Directly oversees the administrative and financial operations of the Neurosurgery clinical and research department and the Neurosurgery HOPE center. The Senior Director of Administration reports directly to the Chair of Neurosurgery, and may represent the Chair in various institutional forums including the New Jersey Medical School, University Hospital and the Rutgers’s University at large.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Establishes short and long-range management, organizational, operational, and financial plans to support the department and organization values, vision, customer service, and general objectives at Rutgers medical schools.
Under the direction of the chair, is responsible for providing administration and direction to all aspects of the department.
Develops department financial policy including the annual budget process, internal financial reporting and audit controls.
Develops and leads an administrative and financial infrastructure for administrative support of the divisions, and centers within the Department of Neurosurgery.
Responsible for hiring and managing a team responsible for administrative and financial operations including management of the Chair’s office, clinical operations, clinical and basic research administration, program development, business planning, and facilities and IT support for each division, center, and institute within the department.
Responsible for the supervision of all technical, clerical and non-faculty professional staff.
Recommends, implements and oversees faculty salary, production/performance and incentive systems under the direction of the Chair and within institutional and state guidelines.
Oversees the development of standardized pre and post award grants and management functions.
Develops an administrative infrastructure to support the central processes associated with the educational programs, such as the Neurosurgery Residency Program, specialty fellowship programs, and fellow and resident recruitment, and other education related administrative support.
Organizes and coordinates the functions of the satellite offices through appropriate departmentalization and delegation of duties.
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID -19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID -19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID -19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices ( ACIP ) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( CDC ). Eligibility for a booster against COVID -19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Business or Hospital Administration, health services or a related field.
At least five (5) years of experience in a management capacity.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Demonstrated success with medical staff relations, finance and operations in a complex organizational environment.
Outstanding human relations, communication and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct experience in an academic healthcare setting and/or academic based group practice.
Membership/participation in a relevant professional organization.
Evidence of post-degree continuing professional education.
