Resettlement Supervisor

Job Overview/Summary:

The Resettlement Supervisor will be responsible for providing leadership and support to the Afghan Placement & Assistance (APA), Afghan Integration & Resettlement Services (AIRS), and Reception & Placement (R&P) case management team. The Resettlement Supervisor will supervise casework staff and serve as the focal point for all case management needs. They will be responsible for the day-to-day work of caseworkers, supporting the delivery of core services, reporting, and administrative tasks. The Resettlement Supervisor must be committed to working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a team committed to offering high-quality, community-based program. They must have sound judgment and be comfortable making decisions in a fluid environment.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform supervisory responsibilities for assigned staff and functions as the chief point-of-contact for all case management support: objective setting, training, performance evaluations, regular 1:1 meetings, professional development and coaching; oversees and manages workflow; provides staff with ongoing support for the delivery of core services and robust case management;
  • Work with Program Manager to support day-to-day program administration including tasks such as data-tracking, program compliance and reporting according to the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) Cooperative Agreement;
  • Serve as the primary liaison to U.S. ties during the pre-arrival period, including completion of U.S. tie agreements and assurance of cases;
  • Direct the daily activities of assigned staff including prioritizing daily and weekly work responsibilities and providing technical assistance to staff with programs including Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), Immigration & Refugee Information System (IRIS), and Integra;
  • Ensure that all refugees have affordable, safe housing; assists caseworkers with developing new housing/landlord relationships and collaborates with staff to identify leads on housing needed for new arrivals;
  • Complete placement determination and program oversight for all minor cases, ensuring that all practices and procedures are followed and that all minor services are delivered by resettlement casework staff;
  • Direct Cultural Orientation activities for new arrivals, coordinating with instructor and casework staff to assure timely and compliant delivery of Cultural Orientation;
  • Work collaboratively with Resettlement and other departments to ensure that recently arrived refugees are provided high-quality services within the department and connected to services in other departments;
  • Review case files at regular intervals; commits to regular supervisor review of files and to coordinating peer reviews among casework staff;
  • Review and submits R&P period (90-day) reports in IRIS; supervises the correction of both period reports and case files with casework staff;
  • Carry a small caseload of cases, as needed, to support the needs of the department;
  • Provide supervision to interns and volunteers in the department;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years of program coordination experience within the social /human services preferred;
  • 3+ years of experience with refugee programs strongly preferred;
  • 1+ years experience supervising staff; preferably within a social services environment strongly preferred;
  • Experience with grant-funded programs, especially federally-funded programs, strongly preferred;
  • Experience working in a direct-service role preferred;

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Previous multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds strongly preferred;
  • Competency in Microsoft Office required; additional technical skills an asset;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations required;
  • Experience working within databases, including reporting, strongly preferred.

Language Skills:

Proficiency in a refugee language (especially Dari, Pashto, Arabic or Swahili) an asset

Working Environment:**

  • Standard, professional office environment;
  • This position will be based at the El Cajon office location;
  • Regular travel to off-site locations is required;
  • Access to a reliable vehicle to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area;
  • Must be able to drive IRC van for company business, including during evening and weekend hours.
