About Us

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is a policy and action research organisation promoting sustainable development and linking local priorities to global challenges. We are based in London and work on five continents with some of the world’s most vulnerable people to strengthen their voice in the decision-making arenas that affect them. With more than 150 members of staff working with associates and partners around the world, IIED has been at the forefront of evidence-based policymaking in sustainable development for over 50 years.

IIED’s Climate Change Group (CCG) works with those who are afforded less voice and power in climate decision-making to co-create solutions that shape pathways and drive action for a just and sustainable future. Within this, the Global Climate Law, Policy and Governance Team works to support least developed countries (LDCs) to achieve equitable and ambitious outcomes in global climate decision making.

In line with IIED’s 5-year strategy “Make Change Happen” the team is undertaking work in three strategic areas: diplomacy and negotiations support, capacity building and national implementation.

We are now seeking a Researcher to join our Global Climate Law, Policy and Governance team on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Benefits

  • A salary of between £41,031 – £45,177 (up to £50,976for exceptional candidates)
  • 25 days’ annual leave per year, increasing annually up to 30 days’ for full-time staff with 10 years’ service
  • 7.5% employer’s pension contributions to the IIED pension scheme
  • A range of flexible working options for all employees after a qualifying period
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption policies
  • An employee protection scheme offering a flexible menu of benefits such as life insurance, spouse and partner life cover, critical illness and/or income protection cover

The full range of benefits can be found on our website.

This is an excellent opportunity for a research professional with experience in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to join our remarkable organisation.

So, if you have the skills to ensure the international representation of some of the most climate-vulnerable nations in high-level talks, then we want to hear from you.

The Role

Specifically, your research will support the implementation of global climate change decisions at the national legislative and policy level, with reference to the Paris Agreement.

You will nurture national and international partnerships for the implementation of capacity strengthening activities that are responsive to LDC’s priorities and needs.

Utilising your exceptional communication skills, you will publish and disseminate key research findings in international forums, particularly to influence policymaking.

Additionally, you will:

  • Work collaboratively to organise and implement project planning, delivery and reporting
  • Provide inputs to create and maintain project budgets and finances
  • Develop the preparation of funding proposals and grant applications
  • Sustain long-term relationships with funders of projects under own responsibility
