Job Description Job Summary

The Department of Physics at Imperial College London invites applications for a Research Operations Coordinator. We are looking for someone who is excited to be involved in developing this new position. We are one of the largest Physics departments in the UK and in Europe and our research portfolio covers the full range of theoretical and experimental physics. We are seeking to develop and enhance our support of research activities and communication of our success.

Duties And Responsibilities

You will be a member of the Department’s Head of Department administration team working with the Research Operations Manager, Department Operations Manager and Executive Assistant to support the Head of Department and the Department’s Research Team.

You will have significant involvement in

  • providing high quality pro-active research support and advice to researchers from all career stages, co-ordinating the preparation of research proposals and supporting the Department oversight of post-award grant processes.
  • leading on the promotion of research success and impact in particular the management, development and maintenance of the Department’s research focused digital media presence.
  • providing support to underpinning Department management and strategic activities as well as working to support the implementation of new, and the improvement of existing, processes.

Essential requirements

You must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Experience of prioritising and managing workload in order to meet deadlines, both prescribed and self-imposed
  • Experience of developing effective relationships to influence direction, develop, agree and implement systems and procedures to meet agreed priorities
  • Experience of manipulating data for analysis and presentation
  • Experience in handling confidential matters with discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and influencing skills with a proven ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with a range of people at all levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent numeracy skills with the ability to interpret data and communicate for different purposes
  • Highly developed IT skills and the ability to support improved communications, information and data dissemination
  • Accuracy/ability to pay attention to detail
  • Proactive commitment to ensuring good practice and following process/procedure
  • Commitment to personal development

In Addition, It Would Be Desirable If You Had

  • Experience of research administration or research programme management within higher education, another public sector or charitable body, industry, or similar organisations
  • Experience managing digital media
  • Experience of servicing committees or groups
