The Role

Oxfam Great Britain is looking for a Research Lead on Conflict and Fragility (RRR). This role will involve providing conceptual and technical leadership on research on Fragility and Conflict and defining and implementing the research agenda for this area of work.

The postholder will manage and undertake high quality qualitative and quantitative research to support global and national impact on OGB’s strategic priorities in the area of Fragility and Conflict and Climate Justice: humanitarian, peace building, resilience, climate attributions and impacts on food security, WASH/water scarcity and governance and influencing the aid sector to integrate a triple nexus approach. It entails collaborative research in novel ways to: (1) make problems visible, (2) understand solutions, and (3) know how to change systems, as well as ensuring that these insights influence changes on programmes, policies and practice.

The role involves managing multi-country research projects and working in collaboration with Oxfam country teams, partners and allies and Oxfam’s global research network. It will also involve managing and influencing significant and high-profile external relationships.

What we are looking for

Our next Research Lead on Conflict and Fragility (RRR) will have extensive knowledge of humanitarian and conflict related issues, and in-depth understanding of context, dilemmas, challenges and ways of working in emergencies and conflicts, including an understanding of gender and power dynamics.

You will have a strong track record of high-quality research on development, humanitarian or peace and conflict issues in fragile and conflict-affected contexts with high levels of complexity. You show deep commitment to and experience with decolonial, safe, anti-racist, intersectional feminist and partner led research. You have excellent communication skills and a high level of analytical and strategic thinking.

You will be able to innovate methodologically, particularly around doing research in fragile contexts, and work across geographies and organisations with passionate colleagues to impact critical global challenges. You will be able to model research that supports power shifts away from mainstream voices and approaches.
