The Opportunity

Programe Quality, Evidence and Impact (PQEI) is a core function in all Save the Children International programmes globally, representing our commitment to accountability and transparency, and is crucial aspect of quality programme management within Save the Children. The Research and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team sits within the PQEI team.

As a member of the Asia Regional Office PQEI team, the intern will support the team with evidence and learning related work.

Major duties and responsibilities:

Assist the team to:

  • Review country learning agendas and Country Strategy Plans to identify emerging trends and knowledge/evidence gaps on priority issues
  • Source secondary data and conduct literature reviews
  • Develop data collection tools, such as surveys (paper-based and online platform) and interview or focus group discussion questionnaires
  • Prepare documents for ethical review submissions
  • Conduct quantitative and/or qualitative data cleaning, management and analysis
  • Draft reports, briefs, powerpoint presentations, and other outputs
  • Visualize data and findings (e.g., chart/graphs, tables, images/icons).
  • Update the global research, evaluation and assessment pipeline and evaluation repository
  • Identify and map potential research partners, donors, consultancies and contractors
  • Identify innovative Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning techniques and tools
  • Facilitate study folder, file and data management systems and record keeping.
  • Other MEAL related tasks in-line with the Intern’s interests and learning needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or relevant professional experience in research, social sciences or similar.

Required competencies:

  • Strong English communication skills (especially speaking and writing)
  • Good interpersonal skills – able to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and show initiative.
  • Experience with literature review, evidence reviews and report writing.
  • Some experience and/or education with research, evaluation or monitoring related work.
  • Some experience and/or education with quantitative data analysis.
  • Some experience and/or education with quantitative data analysis.
  • Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child protection, health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
