Research & Development Director

Job Title: Research and Development Director

Reporting To: YP Operations Director, supported by YP Director, Michael McGill PhD

Hours: 10 or more hours weekly on average Commitment Duration: 1 year

Pay: Volunteer. Location: Anywhere with good communications & internet

What Young Peacebuilders (YP) Does

YP develops partnerships, research, projects, and tools that nurture peacebuilding passion and skill in children and youth with a focus on contexts impacted by armed conflict. In this way YP helps prevent and end cycles of violence. We also help design effective child and youth peacebuilding projects and research for others. We want to see a major shift in the dominant method of addressing contemporary conflicts toward investing in young people as peacebuilders.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities vary depending upon duration of one’s commitment, number of hours committed, interests, skills, and experience. We ensure responsibilities increase along with one’s skill level.

The candidate’s primary responsibility is to expand, strengthen, and well manage YP’s R&D Team to produce a growing body of child and youth peacebuilding research and tools of high quality. And, collaborate with other YP team members to do so. The candidate takes responsibilities below with support from R&D team members whom the R&D Director Manages.

  1. Produce, edit and refine training material content for YP’s online and downloadable training materials.
  2. Identify best practices, current trends and research in peacebuilding training
  3. Use research to identify gaps and improvements for training materials
  4. Support and manage users, volunteers, translators, graphic designers and consultants as appropriate to access and develop training materials
  5. Produce research reports on child and youth peace clubs
  6. Identify best child/youth peace club practices through literature and case study reviews
  7. Use research to provide general needs assessment report
  8. Identify gaps in current practices/Identify shifts in program models

3. Oversee the review and editing of the ongoing 1. YP Desk Review on Youth and Peace Clubs and other evaluations and 2. YPC Training Toolkit.

  1. Examine research quality, tone, writing style, and clarity

Craft and present evidence-based funding and contract proposals

  1. Demonstrate program gap, present research, provide methodology, provide anticipated budget
  2. Present research and plans to potential stakeholders and investors
  3. Write research methodologies & recommend implementation measures
  4. Program development: present plans, research, execution goals (possible ongoing planning/monitoring/evaluation), for use in pursuing research contracts

4. Delivering on research and evaluation contracts, create evaluation reports

  1. Maintain familiarity with trends in YP programs, stakeholders, methods

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant verifiable research and evaluation experience
  • MA in related field
  • Significant knowledge of child/youth peacebuilding field
  • Regular access to the Internet
  • Highly organized
  • Good evidence of excellent management skills
  • Google Drive experience with documents, spreadsheets, and forms
  • Experience with online learning platforms
  • Extremely trustworthy
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work remotely
  • Disciplined independent worker
