JOB BRIEF

The Public Education and national outreach (PE) team is hiring a research assistant (RA) to support its work within USIP’s external relations functions. PE advances the part of USIP’s mandate from Congress that focuses on serving the American people through outreach across the U.S. and through educational resources and engagement opportunities for a broad public audience. • Pay: Starting at $16.10 – $17.00 per hour • Work Schedule: An average of 20 hours per week during school; up to 40 hours when school is not in session. • Work Location: This position is based at USIP’s Washington, D.C., headquarters. • Expected Project Dates: September 2022

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct research in support of the department’s outreach to diverse domestic audiences, including identifying avenues for reaching new audiences and expanding USIP’s contacts and relationships across the U.S. • Support existing Public Education and national outreach initiatives, including programs for secondary and higher education audiences, onsite engagements at USIP’s headquarters. speaking engagements across the U.S., and the 2022 Peace Day Challenge. • Provide support for the department’s work to track contacts and relationships across the country, including updating databases and mapping connections. • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent written communication skills – the ability to prepare drafts quickly, and to write in an accessible way for non-expert audiences. • Strong research skills – the ability to find information quickly, to analyze based on guidance and priorities, and to summarize and synthesize findings in useful formats. • Strong interpersonal skills, including good humor and sound judgement. • Experience with databases that track contacts and relationships is highly desirable; experience with Salesforce is especially useful. • Previous work experience in a fast-paced office environment is required. • Candidates must be a current, full-time Undergraduate or Masters student studying communications, international relations, international peace and conflict resolution, or another related subject.

USIP’s Research Assistant program is administered through the Consortium of Universities in the Washington Metropolitan area. Any full-time university student in the Washington area is eligible for these openings; non-students are not eligible.

As with many organizations, USIP follows specific guidelines related to COVID vaccinations. These guidelines align with the latest findings from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The overall intent is to ensure the safest possible workplace for USIP employees and contractors. In accordance with the guidelines, all USIP employees and contractors with building access are required to be fully vaccinated regardless of telework or remote status.
