Research Assistant / Part Time Contract

Position in the organization

The Research Assistant will support the Research Coordinator with the data related tasks for the Nurturing Families Research Project in Jordan, for ensuring that project’ research data is collected, processed, and stored with high quality, accuracy, timeliness and security, according to War Child rules and regulations and donor requirements. The Research Assistant will support with processing and collection at different time points for the Nurturing Families project.

Result Areas

Project Coordination

  • At all data collection timepoints, supports the Research Coordinator to coordinate data collection in the field, including:
    • Ensuring tablets are charged and allocated correctly.
    • Ensuring kobo forms are loaded correctly and working on each tablet.
    • Phoning participants to invite to the study, schedule assessment days, follow up on anything needed.
    • Supporting with supervising activities data collection days, including ensuring needed materials are ready for use, data is collected and sent/stored safely at the end of the day, reimbursements and refreshments are provided as planned.
  • Alerts research coordinator of any challenges faced in data collection and supports in problem solving them.
  • Taking detailed and proper minutes of meetings and share it by end of each meeting.
  • Follows up and updates relevant data to produce accurate information and maintains reports up-to-date information as required in coordination with the Research Coordinator.
  • Other duties and assignments as deemed necessary by the Line Manager.

Capacity building:

  • Attend research assistant training days.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • In coordination with the M&E team
    • Collecting qualitative and quantitative data from family members, with high quality and accuracy.
    • Data entry of research data from each phase.
    • Quality checking of transcriptions and their translation.
    • Support in descriptive analyses of data.
    • Support the Research Coordinator and Senior Researcher with other analyses and writing as required.
    • Translating documents as needed.

Compliance:

  • Ensures compliance with the rules and regulations of War Child in all areas including data management and record keeping.
  • Complies with financial, safety, CSG and child protection policies and procedures of War Child, managed by the Project Manager.
  • Ensures that receipts and supporting documents are provided to the Finance Officer/Research Coordination in Amman, in accordance with the requirements of War Child.

Knowledge & Experience

  1. Experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working as a research assistant in INGOs
  • At least 1 year of experience conducting research with children and their families in Jordan
  • At least 1 year of experience in the sectors of education and MHPSS
  • Has a university Degree in mental health, education, development and social studies, project management, economics, business administration, public relation or any other related field.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic- written and spoken
  • Familiarity with War Child policies and procedures including data security, child protection, child safeguarding.

Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic as well as English language.

  • Ability to work well with vulnerable children and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to respond well to challenges during data collection, including logistical challenges, participant distress, and equipment challenges.
  • Sound knowledge of participatory approaches
  • Excellent planning, organisational, analytical and report writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills: MS word, Excel and Power Point
  • Excellent drafting skills Arabic and English

Contract: part time contract from 1st March 2023 – 30th September 2023
