The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is a global centre of expertise established in 1998 to monitor and report on the situation of people who become displaced within their own countries. IDMC curates and analyses data from a wide range of sources, provides insight into the risk, scale, causes and impacts of the phenomenon and supports partners around the world in identifying and implementing solutions to it.

IDMC is now looking for a highly organised and rigorous Reporting Associate to support the Global and Regional Analysis Manager in the coordination and production of IDMC’s Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID), Regional Reports and Country Profiles and other reporting products.

What you will do

The Reporting Associate will support the Global and Regional Analysis Manager in the coordination and production of IDMC’s Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID), Regional Reports and Country Profiles, as well as other reporting products, as appropriate. This will represent an opportunity for young professionals to get familiarized with the full production cycle of a flagship publication, from its conception to its production, finalization, printing and translation, by applying a collaborative style in a highly dynamic and interdisciplinary team.

As a Reporting Associate your main tasks will be to:

  • Conduct background research and referencing
  • Support the drafting of the GRID and other reporting products
  • Conduct quality assurance
  • Support planning and coordination of both internal and external products
  • Support the organisation and roll-out of meetings, workshops and other events
  • Conduct administrative tasks relating to printing and translation of reports
  • Perform other duties as required

What you will bring

We are looking for someone with a master’s degree in international affairs, social sciences, displacement, migration, humanitarian or development studies, and at least one year of relevant experience in research, data collection, quantitative and qualitative data analysis. In addition, you should have at least one year of experience working with and/or developing databases and information management systems. You will be a highly organised and rigorous researcher, with demonstrated ability to organise and identify relevant information, and to conduct desk reviews of secondary literature. You will possess strong skills and experience in processing, reviewing and uploading large amounts of data. You will also have solid abilities to review large amounts of data to produce concise analytical products, as well as very strong drafting skills and working knowledge of referencing systems like Zotero or others.

In addition, you will have:

  • Very high attention to detail and thoroughness in day-to-day work
  • Collaborative working style and a strong team player
  • Solution-oriented with positive attitude towards resolving problems
  • Experience communicating with and maintaining relationships with various types of organizations
  • Organizational and time management skills – can perform well under pressure and ability to deliver under tight deadlines when necessary
  • Previous experience with displacement or migration topics, particularly in the areas of disasters, conflict and/or development, a plus
  • An understanding of internal displacement policies, processes, and challenges in the context of conflict, violence, disasters and development, a plus
  • Competence in the use of Word, Excel, databases and online research tools for the capture, organization and analysis of information
  • Fluent and excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Fluency in Spanish, French and/or Arabic a plus

  • Salary and benefits according to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions. This position is a grade 5 on NRC Geneva’s 12 grade salary scale, and the starting gross annual salary for this position is 76,230 CHF.
