Finn Church Aid

Main purpose of the position is to manage FCA’s emergency operations in FCA’s non-program countries and provide targeted support to FCA’s program countries in acute needs.

The position is in Helsinki, but remote work from another location can be considered (subject to a valid work permit in that country). Terms of employment for locally hired employees in Finland will be applied. The Humanitarian Manager will report to FCA’s Head of Humanitarian Emergency Response.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To manage emergency operations in FCA’s non-program countries, including program administration, financial management of the allocated disaster fund and MEAL support.
  • To provide targeted support to country offices during acute emergencies, when requested.
  • Deployed to emergency operations both in new emergencies and ongoing.
  • Development and update of systems and practices for FCA’s humanitarian, including emergency and rapid response programming.
  • Maximizing the potential of the FCA digital platform / SAMPO development and ensuring emergency response processes are included.
  • To support communications and fund-raising efforts related to FCA’s emergency operations
  • To support the identification and development of new initiatives, programming and cooperation opportunities with other like-minded humanitarian actors
  • Global follow-up of emergencies and disasters, focus on FCA’s non-program countries
  • Act as a Duty Officer within FCA’s monitoring mechanism, provide 24/7 monitoring and stand-by to act upon emerging crisis during weekends and in the evenings, when needed

Competence and Skills:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Experience of operational humanitarian work from the field, especially working in fragile contexts.
  • Knowledge in Humanitarian Program cycle
  • Extensive understanding and knowledge of approaches, methodologies and principles adhered in humanitarian assistance
  • Experience in funding mobilization and grant management, including financial management of projects
  • Experience in emergency work related to FCA’s strategic themes and use of Cash based approaches in humanitarian assistance. Strong coordination skills and working experience in multicultural settings
  • Language skills: English is mandatory. Swedish, French and/or Arabic are an asset. Knowledge of Finnish is an advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge of humanitarian assistance and ability to transfer this knowledge into FCA humanitarian programmes

The position is permanent, with six months’ probation period, starting as soon as possible. The compensation is based on FCA Compensation System and depends on prior work experience.
