Shell Asset Management Company B.V. (SAMCo) in Rijswijk is the dedicated in-house asset manager for the Royal Dutch Shell plc group sponsored pension funds and insurance companies and currently manages around USD 100 billion of assets for its clients. SAMCo is supervised by the Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) and the Dutch Central Bank (DNB). The company is internationally oriented with clients in 10 different countries and approximately 175 employees. SAMCo’s objective is to provide high quality and cost-effective investment advice and asset management services to its clients. On behalf of its clients, SAMCo invests in fixed income, equities, and alternative investment categories such as private equity funds and other investment funds, all over the world. Specific parts of the activities are also outsourced to external managers. Continuous change in financial markets and regulations as well as the diversity of SAMCo’s clients and the products they invest in, make it a professionally challenging environment to work in.

We are currently looking to recruit a Regulatory Reporting Manager to join the Reporting team in the Controllers department. The Regulatory Reporting Manager will report to the Head of Reporting and will be responsible for accurate and timely reporting to our regulators and other relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance. This is a new function in which activities related to Regulatory Reporting currently performed by other teams, will be aggregated.

What’s the role?

The Regulatory Reporting Manager is responsible for accurate and timely reporting to our regulators and other relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with the Compliance & Legal team to understand current legislative and anticipated upcoming regulatory reporting requirements. Implement new reports where necessary.
  • Preparing regulatory reports and ensuring that they are made timely with no errors. Where necessary, liaise with other teams to get the required data in time and increase automation of reports. Reports include among others
    • Reports for regulators like the DNB (de Nederlandsche Bank) and the AFM (Autoriteit Financiële Markten)
    • Cost and charging reporting for SAMCo’s clients according to European Union’s MiFID II guidelines (Markets in Financial Instruments Directive).
    • Reports for monitoring short selling, sanctions compliance, best execution
  • Performing the annual MIFID product governance.
  • Maintaining SAMCo’s regulatory disclosure websites and SAMCo’s external website.
  • Developing and maintaining a policy regarding KYC information to counter parties and coordinating providing this data.
  • Managing oversight activities for SAMCo’s investment pools.
  • Supervise the Assistant Regulatory Reporting.

SAMCo operates in a highly regulated environment with significant oversight from regulators, internal and external audits. The Regulatory Reporting Manager is expected to work with tight deadlines to process transactions while being dependent on third parties to receive information in time. The complexity of the function is furthermore driven by the continuous changing regulatory landscape and the increased oversight from regulators and consolidation at EU level. This results in more frequent and deeper reporting requirements.

What We Need From You

As many of the following as possible:

  • Master of Science degree or similar
  • Specific knowledge of asset management legislation and regulations
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements and experience in setting up regulatory reports.
  • Proven understanding of database structures
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to working under pressure.
  • Accurate
  • Good verbal and written communications skills in English
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, both externally and internally, and ability to maintaining sound business relationships. Delivery through others is a key requirement.
  • Ability to do the work itself and coach a more junior team member to do the work as well with required quality

Special challenges

  • This is new function. Regulatory reports are now made by various teams in SAMCo. This person needs to liaise with these teams, together with the Head of Reporting, to take over the reporting and will need to automate the reporting where applicable.
  • Regulatory reporting requirements keep changing over time. This will require continuous attention and implementation work.
  • New regulatory reporting requirements may be interpretable in several ways. Implementing them will require close cooperation with the Compliance & Legal team.
