Position Summary

We are looking for a Relief Part Time (0.56 FTE) Perinatal Nurse who is a patient focused team player to join our team at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

What will you work on?

As part of the Women’s and Children’s Health Services team, you will work to care for a variety of patient types from preterm to adult, following them through their individual journey’s. Ante-/intra-/post-partum patients. We will soon be in our new state-of-the-art Tower in which we will be able to provide care in private family room spaces and we will be connected to our amazing new NICU space, improving care needs!

The position requires flexibility and adaptability to a regularly changing, fast-paced and team driven environment.

We all have things to learn from one another and on WCHS in Kamloops, we are always growing and learning to ensure we are providing high-quality care.

How will we help you grow?

We pride ourselves on ensuring that new staff are set up for success. Education days and unit orientation are imperative to ensure that you feel prepared to care for our diverse patient population. This education and commitment to improve and maintain skills is on-going with an educator on the unit. We have in-house SIMS equipment which allows this continuing education. Opportunities to take on special projects, enroll in additional education and pursue leadership is promoted and available. Our team works very closely with a variety of experts, including our multidisciplinary team, and we learn from our physicians, obstetricians, pediatricians, midwives, social workers, dieticians etc.

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate is a positive team player, flexible and interested in working in a fast-paced environment. You must have your perinatal certification or have a combination of education and experience already working in the field of obstetrics. Willingness to learn, engage with the team and the ability to multitask are imperative. We strive for excellence and take into careful consideration what new team members bring to the unit, including your clinical abilities, attitude and personal characteristics.

Patient Care Tower

Coming in the summer of 2022, Royal Inland Hospital will be opening the new Patient Care Tower. Featuring single-patient rooms equipped with their own washrooms, this new tower will enhance privacy and infection prevention and control measures. It will include maternal and child health services, child and adolescent mental health services, a mental health and substance use inpatient unit, respiratory therapy services, surgical suites, and a rooftop helipad, as well as patient registration and retail space.

This is a relief full time position until approximately July 6, 2022 or return of the incumbent. Shifts are 12 hours, shift times are 07:30 to 19:30 and 19:30 to 07:30.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration with British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Advanced preparation in a Perinatal clinical specialty or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) within 2 years.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 3 years.
