The Opportunity

The Regional Resilience and Conflict Sensitivity Advisor provides technical leadership and support to SCI’s country programs in the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe (MENAEE) region in line with Country Office, Regional and SCI global priorities. Working in close coordination with the regional technical, advocacy and operations Advisors, this position will play a key role in strengthening SCI’s programming capacities with approaches that are relevant to longer term aspirations of conflict and crisis-affected children and their communities, strengthen local systems and structures, build social cohesion, and are responsive to conflict dynamics.

The Advisor will support country offices working across a range of contexts, including in acute crises, protracted crises, and post-conflict contexts. This will largely be achieved through providing hands on technical assistance, including supporting COs to pilot initiatives and capture learning; strategic and programmatic support; capacity building; development of technical guidance notes (in collaboration with other technical advisors); and fund raising and proposal development support. Entry points for strengthening practice will vary, including from area-based approaches, thematic approaches, and mainstreaming good practice across the project cycle. The Regional Advisor will use their in-depth contextual understanding, technical and operational expertise to contribute to building capacity and fostering networks across country office staff, and support building innovative, integrated practice.

The Regional Resilience and Conflict Sensitivity Advisor also plays an active role in SCI’s global and regional coordination mechanisms, and in contribute to advancing SCI’s broader regional priorities including program integration, gender equity, social inclusion, nexus programming, disability inclusion, mental health and psychosocial support and child participation.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the post holder will be expected to work outside the normal job description and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

The position includes regular travel to SCI’s programs in the MENAEE region.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Masters degree in in international relations, migration and displacement, conflict management / mitigation or a related field
  • At least 7 years’ experience of working internationally in international program settings, including field experience in diverse acute and protracted crisis settings
  • Substantial track record in early recovery programming, and/or conflict sensitive programs and/or social cohesion programming
  • Experience in integrated programming, preferably including with one or more of the following: Education, Child Protection, MHPSS, Health, and Cash and Voucher Assistance
  • Successful track record in project design and proposal development.
  • Significant experience in provision of technical support, training, capacity building, and mentoring
  • Demonstrable understanding of M&E, beneficiary accountability, and learning
  • Skilled at networking, representation and partnership development in order promote learning, strengthen civil society and mobilise resources
  • Experience of promoting quality and impact through at least one cross-cutting area: gender equality and inclusion, adaptive and safer programming; child rights; disability inclusion; migration and displacement
  • Fluent in English with high level of English writing skills
  • Fluent in a language used widely in the region (desirable).
