Your role as the Regional Protection Analysis Manager is to be responsible for improving protection monitoring and analysis in relation to the Sudan crisis regional response. This involves developing a protection analysis curriculum, training and mentoring of NRC staff and Protection Cluster partners in the affected countries, advising and liaising with country Protection Clusters, conducting protection analysis that incorporates cross border and regional trends and producing regional protection analysis reports.

Specific responsibilities

  1. Strengthen protection analysis for the regional Sudan crisis response;
  2. Develop a curriculum for training and strengthening protection analysis skills targeting NRC staff in the field, Protection Cluster partners and local organization’s;
  3. Collaborate and liaise with other protection actors globally that are working on analysis to ensure the curriculum has broader application outside of NRC, and fills an unmet need for analysis capacity strengthening;
  4. Conduct training for staff and partners in the field with a focus on Sudan and South Sudan;
  5. Liaise with NRC Country Programmes, Protection Clusters and Sectors at the country and regional level to strengthen analysis capacity and support efforts at protection analysis;
  6. Coordinating with field teams and other relevant stakeholders to monitor regional trends and protection risks;
  7. Conduct regional protection analyses of the Sudan crisis incorporating findings from Sudan, South Sudan, Chad and Egypt;
  8. Support in the development of protection risk analysis tools for use by NRC teams in operating areas to inform programming and targeting for Protection from Violence;
  9. Support the Regional Protection Adviser in developing NRC’s Protection Monitoring and Analysis global technical guidance and approach;
  10. Engage with PIM and Global Protection Cluster initiatives to input into the development of global guidance for Protection Monitoring;
  11. Develop technical guidance, SOPS and provide technical inputs to proposals, and reports related to protection programming in the East and Southern Africa region

Generic professional competencies

  • Relevant University studies in fields related to Protection (law, social sciences or related disciplines).
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a senior level project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context;
  • Experience in conducting Protection Analysis or managing a Protection Monitoring system;
  • Experience working in East and Southern Africa region is essential;
  • Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
  • Knowledge and skills in market analysis, cash-based interventions and market based programmes is a plus;
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Context related skills, knowledge and experience

  • Experience managing a complex protection programme including implementation, programme development, fundraising and budget development.
  • Experience in the development of curricula and rolling out training for field teams
  • Excellent understanding of key technical standards (IASC, protection mainstreaming, IHL, gender and humanitarian principles, donor markers on gender and disability etc.) and a demonstrated ability to integrate them into programming.
  • Understanding of and experience working within the IASC humanitarian architecture/UNHCR led refugee response coordination model. Experience representing an agency in national coordination mechanisms would be an asset.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of team capacity strengthening, including remote coaching, mentoring and training.
