SIHA Network

SIHA is looking for a proactive motivated graduate with interest in the Horn of Africa, feminism and human rights . Excellent research skills and writing and communication skills highly desired for this post.

BACKGROUND

Under the supervision and guidance of SIHA Programme Manager, and working with the Regional Coordinators, the Regional Programme Associate provides technical support to SIHA regional programme operations by carrying out a range of administrative, programmatic, advocacy and other tasks in the successful implementation of SIHA programming and strategic objectives.

Born out of the social justice movement, the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA) Network is an indigenous African women’s rights organization with a soul. Our organization was created by women activists from Somaliland, Ethiopia, and Sudan in the mid-1990s. Today we continue to work as an inclusive and diverse feminist women’s rights network that holds a unique position working as a regional civil society organization in politically volatile contexts. SIHA works in a variety of cultural, political, and geographical environments in Uganda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland, Sudan and South Sudan. Read more

Core responsibilities

  • Works closely with the SIHA programme team to ensure quality implementation of programming across the region;
  • Supports the Regional Coordinators in their planning, implementation and monitoring of projects;
  • Contributes to preparation of concept notes, terms of reference, reports, working papers, presentations and research work;
  • Coordinates and collaborates with SIHA country coordinators across the region to maintain good communication between regional office and country offices;
  • Supports SIHA research and advocacy work and collaborates with SIHA Advocacy and communication team in campaign planning and execution;
  • Contribute to coordinating SIHA membership engagement and tracking
  • Collaborate with SIHA communication and advocacy team in enhancing communication and collaboration with SIHA members;
  • Provides administrative and logistical support as required for programme coordination.

In order to fulfill the role of RPA, SIHA envisions that the RPA will possess the following core competencies:

● Work experience between 12 to 36 months of women’s rights and advocacy work

● Graduate-level degree focusing on International Human Rights, Law, International Relations, Humanitarian Aid, Development Studies, Social Sciences or a related field.

● Excellent writing and communication skills in English.

● Familiarity, with aspects of proposal writing, logistical framework analysis (log frame), project / programme management best practices, and the development of reporting templates;

● Understanding of current Horn of Africa context, particularly in references to challenges facing women and girls in terms of access to justice, human security, upholding of human rights, and social and economic well-being;

● A strong sense of initiative and ability to manage a significant work load;

Remuneration and Benefits

● Salary and benefits according to SIHA’s salary scale and HR policies based on qualifications and experience.

● For internationally recruited staff, SIHA will cover all the cost of entry visa and work permits, travel cost to the duty station and provide a relocation grant.
