Plan International Jordan was established in 2016 and has programs throughout the country on education, youth empowerment, and protection in Amman, Karak, Jerash, and Azraq camps. Plan’s Global Gender Equality and Inclusion policy states that the core objectives of Plan International’s work are to achieve gender equality, promote gender justice, human rights, and foster an inclusive society. This commitment is reflected in our five-year country strategy, our Values, and Behaviors Framework, and our Theory of Change.

We aim to:

  • confront and challenge discrimination and human rights violations based on gender. This includes gender-based violence and other forms of exclusion.
  • challenge stereotypes and unequal power relations between women, men, boys, and girls to promote gender equality, girls’ rights, and inclusion.
  • foster an organizational culture that embraces and exemplifies our commitment to gender equality, girls’ rights, and inclusion, while supporting staff to adopt good practices, positive attitudes, and the principles of gender equality and inclusion.

Objectives of the assignment:

This assignment that is organized by Plan international Jordan in a partnership with Plan International Lebanon aims to provide theoretical and practical knowledge to advance human rights to Young Women/Women from civil society organizations from MENA region leaders (14-25) years old from Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Palestine and Egypt and about human rights concepts, characteristics and principles of human rights, international standards, the role of civil society organizations, and official bodies in protecting human rights, international convents, and the universal declaration of Human rights. This understanding will enhance Women and Young Women ability acquire knowledge and to practice theory through their campaigns and advocacy activation.

These goals and objectives will be achieved through conducting an Interactive training to build the capacities of girls and young women and youth/young women led organizations on girls and young women’s rights structure, context, tools and bodies.

Training Methodology:

The training will be three consecutive days between and will cover a group of topics related to human rights in general and with a focus on girls and young women’s rights. The following are examples of the main topics/ areas that will be addressed in the training: human rights perceptions and expressions, fundamental rights (HR), human rights principles, generations, international standards of human rights, human rights council, and international human rights mechanisms. All the above will be supported with girls and young women treaties, examples and case studies. There will be sessions to highlight the role of governments, national institutions and civil society in defending and protecting girls and young women’s rights on national, regional and international fora.

The specific objectives of the assignment:

  1. Provide an overall theoretical and practical knowledge and information on the HRBA and the human rights standards and mechanisms.
  2. Introduce Human rights concepts, mechanisms, and standards to enable participants to transfer acquired knowledge and apply it through their project’s works and campaigns.
  3. Provide a theoretical knowledge on the feminist leadership principles and intersectionality.
  4. Provide a theoretical framework based on international human rights and principles to enable participants to analyze the situation in their country.
  5. Enable participants in integrating the Human rights-based approach into their work and identify the strategies that will support integration of HRBA into their work.
  6. Accommodate all types of disabilities in the training and activities.

Expected Deliverables

The trainer is expected to deliver educational expertise in the Arabic language to the participants and engage as a facilitator in preparing, facilitating, implementing, and evaluating the activities carried out during the training. In the course of the training period, the facilitator will prepare and implement the program of the activity and outlines of working sessions in cooperation with She Leads project Manager. All activities and materials should be inclusive for people with disabilities. And the following deliverables are expected:

  • Draft an outline for the assignment and explain the proposed methodology for achieving the above-mentioned objectives along with tentative agenda.
  • Develop a detailed work plan for the full period of the assignment along with a sample of pre-post assessments on the technical part of the training.
  • Submit a final report after the training to highlight successes, challenges, recommendations, and areas of improvement based on the pre-post assessment.

Duration and Timeline

The work should commence immediately after the consultant signs a contractual agreement with Plan International Jordan. The consultant is expected to design the work plan for the assignment and submit it within 3 working days after signing the contract. The trainer is expected to be engaged in one “Human rights” training for a total of 3 days. In collaboration with the project manager the assignment should be 4 days delivering the following sub-assignments:

Consultant Required Skills and Experience:

  1. Proven professional record in conducting similar assignments and achieving expected results.
  2. Excellent communication and writing skills in both English and Arabic;
  3. Excellent exposure and experience to similar areas of human rights, GYW, and child rights programming.
  4. It has carried out at least two similar consultancy contracts around the same core subject areas.
  5. Over 5-8 years of professional experience
  6. Has experience in dealing with a diverse group and sensitive to disabilities.

Payment

The payment will be two payments upon approval of the final report to be submitted in narrative form both in hard and soft copy in English and Arabic.

Please note that Plan International will be providing a co-facilitator from the She Leads girls and young women network to support the trainer as well as Plan will cover the co-facilitator expenses.

Specific conditions:

  1. Accommodation and transportation for the Consultant will not be provided by Plan International and should be included in the Consultant budget
  2. Plan International Safety and security guidelines should be strictly followed throughout the activity;

Ethical and child protection considerations

The assignment will require the consultant to interact with children and therefore the consultant is required to provide a statement on the respect and protection of child rights, human rights, and dignity of participants compliant with Plan’s Child Protection Policy.

The consultant shall read, and sign Plan’s child protection policy (CPP) as fully understood and in agreement to in all respects and shall follow this in all and every respect during the term of the consultancy.

The consultant must follow Ethical Principles in research and obtain written/verbal consent from the subjects. Permission from elders should be sought if the children under 18 years are involved as subjects. Signed informed consent of each child and his/her parents need to be taken after explaining the purpose of the study. All applicants should submit their ethical and protection considerations and policies. The consultant shall explain how appropriate, safe, and non-discriminatory participation of all stakeholders will be ensured and how special attention will be paid to the needs of children and other groups.
