Europe Regional Director, Business Development – Biologics/Drug Substance

The Regional Director, Business Development (RM-BD) leads a sales group of Account Executives/Directors, collectively responsible for winning new business and supporting existing partnerships within the designated region.

Position Summary

The RM-BD is accountable for certain identified accounts/partnerships as well as the sales-wins and for the leadership of the individual BD team. The RM-BD is accountable for selling assigned technologies into an assigned territory.

The Regional Manager is the primary point-of-contact for clients of these technologies within this territory.

The Regional Director will report to the Vice President, Global Business Development, Biologics Drug Substance

Location: The position is ideally based close to a major airport in Central Europe

In concert with Catalent’s Patient First philosophy, this position is key in our efforts toward continuous improvement of our processes & information which will allow quality drug products to reach patients safely and efficiently.

The Role (daily responsibilities)

This position has responsibility for leading a team of business development professionals, as well as providing support and management oversight at key clients/opportunities in the establishment of new biologics drug substance partnerships in the target territory. Success will be primarily measured by sales and revenue growth and requires a high level of technical and commercial sophistication as well as people leadership skills. Target programs are multimillion-dollar contractual commitments and truly require a ‘team sale’. Key responsibilities include:

  • Overall responsibility to lead sales growth in the identified region.
  • Responsible for driving the team in the building and continued increase in the opportunity pipeline
  • Develop and implement the execution of the territory plan with the objective to achieve annual wins/sales targets through the closing of new deals.
  • Identify, open, lead and close business development deals with new and existing clients; promoting company visibility, growth and profitability.
  • Implement strategies aimed toward increasing revenue and market share in the target region.
  • Build robust meeting/call plans for individual territories in the region with specific KPIs and metrics
  • Organize and coach the team on the proper preparation of site visits with prospective clients; setting agendas, coordinating team participation and leading discussions. Follow with diligent feedback and strategies to address any concerns.
  • Develop, nurture and maintain a positive, constructive and trusting working relationship with members of relevant internal teams at both site locations.
  • Provide market intelligence acquired through sales initiatives to business development and other cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate both internal and external technical, legal and/or financial due diligence activities regarding specific business opportunities.
  • Represent the company at various trade shows, community and/or business meetings.

The Candidate (requirements)

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science, ideally in Biological Science. Advanced degree very welcome to apply (Ph. D, MS, MBA)
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of Biologics Industry Technical sales focus or minimum of 7++ biologics drug substance business development sales leadership experience and 2 or more years of technical sales or commercial operations. Proven performance track record in Business Development in a relevant industry.
  • Proven ability to manage within a matrix organization and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Broad knowledge of the Biologics industry with a focus on:
    • European Market trends
    • European Regulatory knowledge
    • Competitive selling strategies
  • Must be comfortable engaging both commercial and technical operations teams.
  • Discussing strategic as well as tactical approaches to growing clients and the overall business.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required

Preferable Experience

  • B2B and outsourcing, service-oriented experience in a related industry.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce
