DGI-Kenya relies upon Preferred Personnel Africa (“PPA”), a third-party human resources solutions company, to employ those who render effort for DGI-Kenya. The Regional Director, Africa will be a PPA employee, dispatched to support Duke as provided for herein.

As part of Duke, Duke Global Health Innovation Center (Duke GHIC), and its partner organization, Innovations in Healthcare (IiH), seek a visionary, strategic, collaborative, and enterprising Regional Director, Africa to lead its Africa office. The Regional Director, Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya, will be a Kenyan national who is responsible for leading Duke GHIC’s activities in Africa, including strategy, business development, talent management, and program design and delivery. The Regional Director will be an integral member of the GHIC/IiH global leadership team, contributing to global strategy and activities. The Regional Director, Africa will need to travel to locations throughout Africa, the United States, and other parts of the world, and will interact with a diverse group of colleagues, innovators, and collaborators.

The role holder will be expected to oversee the following tasks below;

  • Strategy and Business Development (15%) – Informing and helping to implement organizational strategy and annual strategic objectives, goals, and metrics, including monitoring progress; Developing relationships to strengthen Duke GHIC/IiH brand, position, and credibility across the portfolio.
  • Talent Management (10%) – Leading the Duke GHIC/IiH Africa team and overseeing Duke University student engagement in support projects with innovators, in collaboration with Duke GHIC/IiH Africa team members and with other funded projects.
  • Program Design and Management (75%) – Leading the end-to-end project management process for of Duke GHIC/IiH Africa team members, from identification of a partnership opportunity, through project concept development and design, to implementation.

This is a dynamic and highly visible leadership role for the candidate who has the following qualities and qualifications;

  • A Master’s degree in a health-related field (e.g., advanced clinical degree and/or MBA or MPH).
  • Minimum of ten (10) progressive years of health sector experience, including direct engagement with innovators and entrepreneurs.
  • Must be a Kenyan National or have the right to work in Kenya.
  • Experience developing a deep and broad network across African academics, governments, NGOs, and business communities, and engaging with senior health executives and policymakers.
  • Passionate about the transformative potential of health innovations to improve health and healthcare globally.
  • Deep understanding of the fundamentals of innovation (e.g., impact measurement, systems thinking, cross-sector approaches) and ability to apply prior research, data analysis, and evaluation experience
  • Broad awareness of health systems and health innovation landscapes in Africa, especially across East Africa
  • Extensive professional network of global and regional health leaders and innovators, in both public and private health sectors
  • A vision for equitable, sustainable, high-quality health systems – globally and especially in Africa – that integrates and fosters innovation
