arche noVa

arche noVa – initiative for people in need is an independent, non-religious, non-profit and non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Germany working in the fields of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation and development. The primary focus of our activities lies in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH).

Since 2008, arche noVa has run a regional coordination office, based in Nairobi, which supports activities in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Ethiopia and willingness to extend to the neighboring countries.

In East Africa we work with small-scale farmers, agro-pastoralist and pastoralist communities, internally displaced people & fishing communities. We work in partnership with local and international NGOs to empower and equip communities with practical knowledge, skills and sustainable infrastructures. Regional Coordinator East Africa

Position to be filled: asap

Location of working: Kenya (Nairobi) with frequent travels to the project countries

Role and Responsibilities:

General

  • Overseeing the Management of programmes in Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Ethiopia and any other country in the East Africa Portfolio of arche nova
  • Conducting rapid assessments and monitoring of onset crises and disasters in East Africa
  • Development and implementation of arche noVa East Africa strategy in collaboration with the Headquarters (HQ) in Germany
  • Ensure good collaboration with local and international partners, local authorities and all key stakeholders
  • Ensure continuous conducive relations with donors and identification of new funding opportunities and occasions for technical partnerships
  • Participation in relevant Clusters and NGO and Coordination Forums
  • Management of the team in the regional office
  • Responsible for the overall Security Management
  • Close collaboration with and regular reporting to HQ
  • Representing arche noVa in relevant coordination meetings, clusters and meetings with donors, the Embassy and other relevant stakeholders

Programmes and grants management

  • Quality management of all grants and projects according to arche noVa’s procedures and policies and donors’ requirements
  • Ensure innovative approaches are included in existing and future programmes in order to increase positive impact on project beneficiaries
  • Regular supervision and monitoring of ongoing projects and strengthening collaborations with partners and beneficiaries
  • Promotion of arche noVa’s work through presentations, production and dissemination of relevant visibility materials, tools, and publications
  • Networking with NGOs: identifying partnership opportunities and coordination

Programmes administration and capacity building

  • HR management: development of programme staff structures, recruitment, performance monitoring, capacity building
  • Ensure & controll overall finance, procurements, and administration procedures are in place according to the AN guidelines and donors’ requirements
  • Capacity building of partners in project countries

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in one of the following: development and cooperation, humanitarian and international affairs, management of non-profits or other relevant fields
  • Experience in management, project leadership, implementing, and monitoring programmes above 5 Million USD (at least 7 years)
  • Proven experiences of implementing projects in East Africa region
  • Experiences in management of WASH and Food Security Programmes including remote management
  • Firm understanding of donor compliance, reporting, proposal development and procedures (especially BMZ, German Federal Foreign Office, Europe Aid, ECHO, Country based Pooled Funds, UN Agencies)
  • A broad understanding of roles and responsibilities of the international cooperation and humanitarian architecture including key actors, standards, clusters, donors
  • Strong understanding and experience of security management in complex environments
  • Excellent capacity building and guidance/supporting skills for local partners
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, German is highly recommended
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts
  • Having the ability to work under high pressure of stress and changing project environment
  • Being flexible and pro-active in order to response to humanitarian crises

Duration: 12 months contract with possibility of renewal, 6 months probationary period
