HEKS/EPER, Swiss Church Aid, supports projects designed to combat hunger, poverty and injustice in over 30 countries on four continents. Your main responsibilities:

  • You work with relevant country office staff and headquarters to ensure all grants, awards, and internally funded projects are implemented according to guidelines and donor requirements
  • You ensure effective financial management and control of HEKS/EPER Africa programmes. Establishment and implementation of internal compliance mechanisms in order to minimize financial risk and ensure compliance to donor requirements on financial matters for Coordination Offices (CO’s) in Africa
  • You assess and develop the financial management capacity of the finance staff and budget holders in the COs. In collaboration with the Controlling Team and HoP, provide training where gaps are identified
  • You give support to the Finance Officers in the COs regarding financial and controlling tasks (e.g. budgeting and forecasting of expenditures)
  • You provide technical support to CO staff in the development of donor budgets within the proposal writing processes and with respect to compliance to backdonors financial requirements and procedures
  • You support the COs in the development and revision of the national salary scales, according to the HEKS/EPER guidelines
  • You ensure recommendations from external financial auditors are followed and implemented appropriately by the Cos
  • You provide regular reports about main actions and key findings to the Head of Controlling GC and report immediately on any major irregularity in financial management
  • You contribute actively to the development and improvement of financial processes and templates enhancing the financial management of programmes and projects by the COs and between COs and HQ
  • You support the CD in the recruitment process of Finance and Admin staff for the Country Offices Teams

To be successful you bring:

  • Degree or diploma of a higher education institution in Controlling/Finance
  • Minimum five years’ experience in an international relief agency as finance/controlling coordinator of which at least 2 yFears in the field
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Thorough knowledge of the humanitarian sector and relevant standards
  • Experience in dealing with a wide range of institutional donors (ECHO, USAID, etc.) and with multi-donor contracts
  • Proven ability to work in intercultural teams
  • Ability to work in insecure settings and under pressure
  • Ability to work both independently and with teams, excellent facilitation skills, sensitivity for gender & social equity and local culture
  • Willingness to travel abroad (about 30%) and flexibility of short-term travelling
