POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks a Regional Communications Coordinator to lead and implement the program communication and social media strategies in the framework of the regional PRM GBV project which is implemented in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The regional project has as its main objective respond, reduce the risk, and prevent gender base violence for refugees and migrants in the context of the Venezuelan humanitarian crises. The incumbent will work 80% of its time in the regional project, and 20% will be spent on HIAS Colombia communication responsibilities. This position will be based on Colombia.

Under the technical supervision of the Regional GBV Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing communication guidance to the National Communication Teams (Ecuador, Colombia and Peru) in the framework of the PRM GBV regional project. The incumbent will coordinate, reach agreements, and implement communication actions in the basis of the project´s objectives and goals. And will work in close coordination with the Regional Advocacy and Communications Officer, Senior Gender and GBV LAC Regional Technical Advisor, and Country Communications Teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, coordinate and implement regional project communication strategies in close coordination with National Communication Teams (Ecuador, Colombia and Peru) ensuring alignment with PRM regional project´s objectives and goals, and HIAS´ communications priorities and brand raising guidelines with the support of GBV staff.

  • Provide communications guidance to the national and regional GBV and advocacy team as part of the regional program activities.

  • Identify, implement and use related communication tactics, tools and activities, contributing to the achievement of the projects objectives and results as well as in the sustainability of the latter. Guide and oversee the creation of the brand (branding) and visual identity of the regional program and processes; guide and oversee the development of related products.

  • Organizing and implementing awareness raising, training, information provision and strategic communication for regional campaigns.

  • From program brief to production, will coordinate the development of various communications materials by packaging thematic and program contents in different formats e.g. milestone reports, brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, summaries, videos, animation, speeches, stories, etc. Will manage all supplier relationships in the process.

  • Identifying media opportunities, developing appropriate media releases and organizing media events; fostering media relations in the countries where the program is implemented.

  • Maintain an up-to-date database of journalists and media organizations.

  • Creating rich and compelling content for websites, microsites, and social media.

  • Identify, articulate, and communicate success stories.

  • Prepare summaries of technical reports and studies, in the fields related to Gender and GBV, women and girls forced displaced, LGBTIQ+ displaced population.

  • Drafting talking points and messages, and for sharing with key audiences at regional and national levels.

  • Draft, implement and monitor annual and monthly communication workplans and budgets.

  • Prepare related reports.

  • Draft the part of program report related to communications.

  • Travel to Country Offices as needed.

  • Ensure that communications remain neutral with regard to the geo-political/political and security related sensitivities of the beneficiary countries; in this respect, ensure that communication material and content are aligned with the respective rules and regulations of HIAS and have the clearance of the LAC Regional Office.

  • Participate and contribute to the work of GWP-Med’s communication team. In this regard feed the team with news stories to be used for the overall communication of the work of the organization.

  • To lead and provide guidance to HIAS Colombia comms team about publications, social media, and other comms products.

  • Undertake any other actions related to communications as requested by regional team

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional with training in Social Communication or related fields. Postgraduate studies in strategic communication, communication with a gender approach, Human Rights and/or migration is an advantage.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in coordinating communication strategies. Experience in implementation of multi-country communication actions with respect of human mobility or GBV is a plus.

  • Experience and knowledge related to Venezuelan humanitarian crises in LAC will be valued.

  • Excellent writing and message development skills

  • Level knowledge in photography

  • Experience in collecting videos using smartphone or DSLR

  • Previous work on regional or national communication campaigns required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Spanish; English working knowledge

  • Experience working in conflict-affected areas and with vulnerable populations.

  • Outstanding strategic vision, coordination skills, and results-oriented approach to lead and reach project´s communication objectives.
