Human Rights Watch is seeking a Recruitment Officer to join our dynamic and growing Global Human Resources team. The Recruitment Officer will facilitate and strengthen our global talent acquisition program, with a focus on recruitment in our programmatic and advocacy divisions. This position will preferably be based in New York or Washington, DC but locations in a similar time zone may be considered. The Recruitment Officer reports to the Associate Director of Recruiting, Onboarding and Special Projects based in New York.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are currently operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely if local mandates necessitate. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES*:*

1. Work with the Associate Director and Recruitment Officer for operations to facilitate the acquisition of all global staff;

2. Help craft job descriptions and post for vacancies; ensure descriptions accurately represent the role and ensure responsibilities are in line with job function;

3. Guide managers and hiring teams through the recruitment process, including by conducting check-ins and advising on outreach strategy and interview processes;

4. Implement processes to mitigate unconscious bias in our candidate assessment process, facilitate diverse and robust candidate pools, and help ensure an inclusive and positive candidate experience;

5. Identify sources to strengthen and diversify candidate pools;

6. Support and guide managers to effectively onboard and integrate new colleagues;

7. Assist in reviewing applications, liaising with candidates, setting up interviews, crafting interview questions, interviewing, checking references, and providing guidance on final selection as needed;

8. Liaise effectively with staff on the HR team, within Operations, and across the organization to effectively coordinate pre-hire activities;

9. Help maintain the applicant tracking system;

10. Train staff on recruitment processes and systems;

11. Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, as well as organization policies; and

12. Perform other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications*:*

Education: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

Experience: Minimum three years of relevant experience, preferably in non-profit or international recruiting.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

1. Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization.

2. Highly organized and detail oriented and ability to execute projects with minimal guidance.

3. Solid judgment, discretion, and critical thinking skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to think proactively and holistically.

4. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; proficiency in another language is desirable.

5. Experience working with Applicant Tracking Systems; experience with Greenhouse is a plus.

6. Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals with diverse identities, cultures, backgrounds, skillsets, and orientations.

7. Commitment to HRW’s mission and human rights values.

8. Knowledge of human rights research and advocacy roles is desirable.

9. Excellent computer knowledge including Windows and MS Office applications.

Salary and Benefits: HRW seeks exceptional applicants and offers comprehensive compensation and benefits. HRW offers a relocation assistance package and will assist employees in obtaining necessary work authorization, if required; citizens of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. If based in the United States, the salary range would be USD 60,000- 70,000. Salary ranges outside of the United States vary based on location.
