IRC Background:

Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S.; IRC provides assistance to refugees resettling here through 27 offices operating in 16 states. IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994, and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees.

Job Overview:

The Receptionist will serve as the initial point of contact for anyone visiting or calling the IRC, responsible for managing reception materials and responding to client and visitor inquiries. This position reports directly to the Senior Operations Coordinator. This position is a part-time position working 18.75 hours in the IRC SLC office each week. The responsibilities will be as follows:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional level customer service to everyone who visits the IRC.
  • Answer front door and phones in a professional manner, routing inquiries as necessary.
  • Help maintain workplace security and follow COVID-19 and other IRC Safety & Security protocols.
  • Assist in maintaining office cleanliness, including monitoring supply levels and connecting with correct team member on office space or IT questions.
  • Manage office mail pick-up and distribution.
  • Maintain contact list for employees, AmeriCorps and interns.
  • Create and manage calendar of IRC classes and events.
  • Serve as part of office cashiering team, responsible for receiving payments, issuing receipts and maintaining an accurate log of transactions.
  • Assist Executive Director in administrative tasks such as copying, faxing, contract organization, and making appointments and meeting agendas.
  • Oversee parking pass distribution.
  • Manage vehicle check out system.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency.
  • Maintain professionalism, customer service, and IRC Way ideals when working with fellow employees and the individuals we serve.
  • Support general office logistics, such as office support and front desk, as applicable and feasible.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/Work Experience:

  • Associates Degree or equivalent work experience, preferably in a non-profit or social services agency environment.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

  • Experience as receptionist preferred.
  • Previous non-profit agency experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual or multi-lingual proficiency preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate through telephone, email and other correspondence.
  • Well organized, high attention to detail.
  • Solid computer-based skills and proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Self-direction, initiative, and follow up skills to ensure work is accurate and deadlines are met.
  • Enthusiasm about working in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
