In South Sudan, AAH-I works in Greater Equatoria, Greater Jonglei, Greater Upper Nile and Greater Unity State, with field offices in Juba, Yei, Maridi, Yambio, Mundri, Bor, Wau, Ajong Thok, Maban and Malakai.

AAH-I South Sudan Country Programme is looking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate to fill the vacant position of Heavy Plant mechanic to be based in Maban, Upper Nile State.

Reports to: Senior Workshop Foreman Responsible for:

The Heavy Plant Mechanic is responsible for service, repair and maintenance of AAH-I/UNHCR-owned heavy equipment comprising mostly of Caterpillar Machines/Plants. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic maintains heavy equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements.

Job Summary and Purpose

The Plant Mechanic performs a variety of activities designed to service, repair and maintain pieces of AAH- 1/UNHCR-owned heavy equipment comprising mostly of Caterpillar Machines/ Plants. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic maintains heavy equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, such as correcting equipment/vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records.

Note: This Job Description may not encompass the entire scope of this role, as other duties may be assigned by management.

Duties and responsibilities

The Plant Mechanic is responsible to:

• Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections a · · identifying worn and damaged parts.

• Service, repair and maintenance of a variety of automotive equipment such as container truck lifts, reach stackers, front end loaders, cranes and other special-purpose types of equipment.

• Maintain records of equipment repaired along with time spent on such equipment.

• Check Excavators, Wheel Loaders, Graders, Compactors, Backhoe Loaders, Truck/cranes, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.

• Inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions and diagnose to determine the extent of repair required.

• Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using appropriate tools.

• Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications.

• Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.

• Assists the workshop personnel (assistant mechanic/junior mechanics) and records time performed on the timesheet and job codes to each job carried out.

• Will perform and carry out other duties/ jobs that may be assigned from time duties.

Education & Experience:

A High School diploma is required.

Diploma of Professional Studies in heavy mechanic/diesel mechanic is preferred, or equivalent Minimum 2-3 years experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy diesel equipment, o

At least 2-3 years experience of which must have been specifically involved in the repair of trucks or other heavy automotive equipment, or equivalent.
