Center for Evaluation and Development

The Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED) is looking for a Quantitative Research Manager / Data Analyst at its office in Kampala (Uganda).

C4ED is a global research center aiming at improving the lives of the poor and the vulnerable by making development interventions more effective. As a non-profit research center and registered charity with offices in East Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa, South Asia and Europe, C4ED aims to bridge the gap between research and practice in global development. C4ED currently conducts projects all over the world, with a focus on Africa and South Asia, and implements research and evaluation projects for the European Union, GIZ, IFAD, ILO, J-PAL, KfW, World Bank, WFP, UNICEF, and other UN organizations, to name just a few of our cooperation partners. With a strong focus on quantitative impact evaluations, we are one of the leading research centers in the areas of poverty, microfinance, health, education, employment, social protection, nutrition and climate change in the Global South, with a strong focus on Data Analysis and Monitoring and Evaluation.

C4ED Uganda is looking for a Quantitative Research Manager (RM) to join its team for quantitative research methods. The successful candidate will be working alongside quantitative researchers and impact evaluators on projects taking place in Uganda and elsewhere in Africa. While the position is based in Kampala, you will be part of a globally integrated team.

    • selecting and training enumerators,
    • defining workflows and hierarchies in the field,
    • budgeting and supervision of fieldwork,
    • programming and conducting high-frequency data quality checks,
    • managing data storage and processing,
  • Travel (when required) to research project sites for data collection and other tasks,
  • In cooperation with experienced researchers, perform data analysis and write reports,
  • Contribute to applications for projects and grants,
  • Carry out other project management tasks

Requirements

You have a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in economics, statistics or social sciences with substantial experience in quantitative data management. You have gained experience in empirical analysis – in particular in conducting field surveys and large-scale data collection, preferably in Uganda.

You have proven quantitative skills, knowledge of common statistical software packages (e.g. Stata or R), experience with programming CAPI software (e.g. Survey Solutions or SurveyCTO, ODK, KoboToolbox) and possibly geographical software (e.g. ArcGIS). While you will be working in a team, you are able to manage multiple tasks and propose solutions in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

You enjoy interacting with a wide range of individuals ranging from researchers, donors to data collection staff, and you are able to maintain good collaborations. As we are working internationally, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential.
