The role

We are currently looking for Quantitative Behavioral Scientist Analyst Consultant based in Anywhere in the World.

Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organization for children, working in 117 countries with more than 25,000 staff. In April 2020, Save the Children launched the in Asia. CUBIC is the first “nudge unit” in the world to focus specifically on the most marginalized children’s rights and welfare. Our goal is to apply behavioral science in order to reach more children and have an even greater impact on their lives.

Objective of Consultancy

The Objectives of this Consultancy – Quantitative Behavioral Scientist Analyst Consultant- is to support CUBIC staff with behavioral science-focused projects. Tasks include: Desk reviews, cleaning and analyzing quantitative data, conducting behavioral science presentations and workshops, writing results for both technical and non-technical audiences, among others.

Profile and Skills Sought

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, Math, Data Science, Economics, Public Policy, Neuroscience, or a related field, and a master’s degree.
  • Over 2 years of previous research and work experience in a related field, including at least 1 year of experience working in applied behavioral science projects, with a preference for candidates with experience in developing contexts.
  • Strong quantitative, research, and data analytic skills, including demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with data analysis software such as STATA, R or Python.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise contributing to the designing, implementing, and analyzing randomized field experiments in developing countries.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, able to manage multiple tasks, team members, and projects efficiently and a team player.
  • Ability to succeed, detailed oriented, drive projects, and collaborate via a remote working structure.
  • Excellent management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency and excellent communication and writing skills with a mastery of English.

Desirable:

  • PhD in related field.
  • Experience and/or certification in project management systems such as PMDPro, Agile, or PMP
  • Fluency in Spanish or French.

Primary pieces of work

The Qualitative Behavioral Science Analyst Consultant will carry out tasks for supporting 2-3 projects, such as:

  1. 1. Desk review
    1. Conducting desk research that includes literature reviews, data availability, and project documentation on behavioral issues/previous evidence on particular topics
    2. Conducting stakeholder/policy mapping
    3. Design/Coordination
  2. Supporting the design of interventions
  3. Assisting in overseeing and monitoring of interventions and data collection
    1. Data analysis
    2. Conducting statistical analysis of existing surveys, census, and available datasets
    3. Conducting statistical analysis of impact evaluations
    4. Presenting of data in compelling and understandable ways
    5. Analytical work
    6. Supporting the preparation of presentations
    7. Supporting the design of experiments
    8. Drafting and/or editing project briefs, reports, and case studies
    9. Drafting academic papers for journal submission, where results are suitable for publication
    10. Assisting with behavioral design training sessions
    11. Assisting with behavioral design workshops
    12. Other tasks as needed

Timeframe

Estimated 10-20 hours per week, for a min of 1 year beginning on 16 May 2022, with a high likelihood of extension based on funding available and project requirements.

Location Considerations

Location of position holder is flexible, though preference will be given for persons based between UTC to UTC +8 time zones, namely Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

Payment methodology

The consultant will provide expertise via a “drawdown” contract. In total, Save the Children will contract the consultant for up to 10 days per month equivalent to 80 consultant hours per month, over a 1-year period (If the hours are expended during this period and the contract further extended, the same rate should apply during this period.)

The consultant should keep a tally of work done including reference to Piece of Work, Dates, and Hours spent. This tally, along with any written work and signed invoice with fee calculation and payment instructions, should be submitted to Save the Children to process payments. Payment requests can be submitted at the end of each month. Save the Children will provide payment based on the actual number of hours/days worked as reported in the tally (a.k.a. timesheet.)

Contract length: 1 year
