About SJAC

Founded in 2012, The Syria Justice and Accountability Centre (SJAC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting meaningful justice for Syria that holds perpetrators accountable and addresses the grievances of victims, leading to lasting peace and respect for human rights.

Consultancy

SJAC’s staff and consultants face potentially traumatizing content as part of their daily work. Much of SJAC’s team are Syrians themselves, who have directly experienced the traumas of conflict. SJAC provides a variety of psychosocial support to its team members, and is now seeking a Psychosocial Adviser who can centralize that work, offering oversight for SJAC’s psychosocial offerings and ensuring that the management team has the policies and training necessary to handle mental health emergencies. The Adviser will conduct an assessment of SJAC’s current psychosocial support systems, assist SJAC in articulating clear goals for its psychosocial support programs, draft appropriate psychosocial policies, provide trainings to staff, support SJAC’s management team, and provide clinical supervision to SJAC’s psychosocial consultants.

This is a part-time, remote consultancy. SJAC anticipates that an Adviser may spend an average of 15-30 hours/month working with SJAC’s team, though more hours may be required in the beginning of the consultancy.

Duties and Responsiblities

• Conduct an assessment of the psychosocial needs of SJAC’s team and provide clear recommendations,
• Ensure communication across SJAC’s team of psychosocial support consultants, ensuring that issues and concerns are being caught and addressed promptly,
• Provide clinical supervision to SJAC’s psychosocial consultants as needed,
• Assist in drafting an organizational wide psychosocial policy,
• Train SJAC management in psychological first aid and other identified needs,
• Host monthly meetings with SJAC’s leadership to discuss the psychosocial challenges of their work, including strategies to work with traumatized beneficiaries, manage teams handling difficult content matter, and build a resilient organizational culture,
• Provide advice on psychosocial programming during project development.

Required qualifications

• BA or advanced degree in psychology or related field, with experience working as a clinical practitioner.
• Experience working with victims of trauma, including survivors of violent conflict.
• Experience supporting humanitarian or human rights workers and a knowledge of secondary trauma.
• Experience providing clinical supervision.
• Bilingual Arabic and English speaker able to provide psychosocial support in both languages.
• Knowledge of the Syrian context preferred.
