Are you a Greek licensed psychologist with experience in providing mental health and psychosocial support to refugees and migrants? And are you available from October onwards? Then come strengthen our team! You will be responsible for the individual psychological support consultations of our MHPSS programme in the city centre of Athens. .

WHERE WILL YOU WORK?

Boat Refugee Foundation provides medical and psychosocial (emergency) aid and stands up for the rights of people seeking refuge. We take action where systems become inhumane and compassion is lost. Since 2015, we have been working in various locations at the borders of Europe. Currently, we are setting up a new programme in Athens, where we will be offering MHPSS services (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support).

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

As a psychologist, you will be responsible for the individual psychological support consultations of our MHPSS programme in the city centre of Athens. Here we will offer psychosocial support to adult refugees and migrants, focusing on increasing their strength and capacity. Our approach is comprehensive and strength based; we focus on the individual and take each person’s identity, knowledge and skills as a starting point.

You will be joining our Athens team, consisting of an Area Manager, a MHPSS Coordinator, a Greek social worker and a number of international professional volunteers. As we are currently still setting up the programme in Athens, you’ll be working closely with our MHPSS Coordinator and Area Manager to develop protocols and referral pathways. You will also help us establish a network with other organisations and help to ensure that our organisation is well embedded in both the Greek services as in the (international) NGOs.

THESE ARE YOUR TASKS:

  • Conducting first intakes and initial psychological assessments;
  • Establishing a safe environment for the beneficiaries and develop an individualised care plan;
  • Conducting individual consultations following a strength-based comprehensive approach and follow ups;
  • Mapping of other specialised MHPSS services (in collaboration with the social worker) and referring beneficiaries to other actors;
  • Accompanying beneficiaries to psychiatric services/appointments when needed;
  • Providing psychological reports to external partners when needed;
  • Supporting the MHPSS volunteers’ team with outreach, identification of cases, raising awareness and group activities;
  • Working closely with the MHPSS coordinator for establishing referral pathways and writing protocols;
  • Attending meetings, such as multidisciplinary meetings and intervision with the MHPSS team and providing technical support when needed;
  • Taking part in capacity building activities, such as training etc.;
  • Ensuring all relevant internal reports are in place according to agreed deadlines.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

As a psychologist, you have experience working with vulnerable groups and offering mental health support to refugees and migrants. You have excellent clinical skills and know how to apply a strengths-based approach, by always taking someone’s identity, knowledge and skills as a starting point. You communicate clearly and enjoy working together with your colleagues. You are aware of the background of our target population (adult refugees and migrants) and know how to support them through individual psychological support consultations and group activities.

THIS IS YOUR PROFILE:

  • You have completed a university degree in Psychology;
  • You have a professional licence to practice psychology in Greece;
  • You’ve got at least two years of work experience in providing mental health consultations and psychosocial support to adult refugees and migrants;
  • You have experience in emergency settings and knowledge of PFA and IASC guidelines;
  • You’ve got excellent communication skills;
  • You are fluent in Greek and English;
  • You’ve got computer literacy skills.

Skills / Competences:

  • Excellent clinical skills;
  • Experience and skills in supporting vulnerable population in Athen’s urban context;
  • Comprehensive and strengths-based approach and synthetic therapy tools;
  • Self awareness and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Strong skills when it comes to communication, collaboration, active listening, and problem-solving;
  • Teamwork spirit;
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Integrity and respect of the code of conduct.

WHAT ARE STRONG PROS?

  • You speak French/Farsi/Arabic;
  • You hold a Masters degree in a relevant field;
  • You have followed psychotherapeutic training.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

We offer you a paid six-month contract for 25 hours a week, with a possibility of extension.
