The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organization, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its support operations in Iraq.

Duty Station: Iraq – Ramadi Office

Reports to: Head of Office – Ramadi

Duration of Contract: One-year fixed term contract (with the possibility of renewal to an open-ended contract where performance and competencies are key to be selected for further contractual continuity)

Objective:

The Psychologist delivers culturally appropriate and relevant awareness raising on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to communities and ensures the provision of sensitization on a variety of the MHPSS topics for health staff and key community actors, so they can identify and refer individuals in need of MHPSS care appropriately.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with community actors to develop and deliver awareness raising and sensitization sessions that increase community knowledge of MHPSS topics and psychological consequences of violence.
  • Supports in the identification of individuals who can act as sensitizers and be part of awareness raising outreach teams that deliver messages on MHPSS.
  • Develops and provides training for awareness raising outreach teams on key messages and types of methodologies that can be used to sensitize communities on MHPSS.
  • Identifies, sensitizes, and supervises key community actors to recognize and refer individuals who may need psychological care.
  • Assesses and monitors training and sensitization needs of key community actors who may benefit from more knowledge on MHPSS topics (e.g., identification of signs of MHPSS, psychological consequences of violence, how to identify survivors of sexual violence, etc.).
  • Provides continuous coaching to counsellors/accompaniers and provides constructive feedback according to ICRC guidelines and protocols so they can.
  • Meet beneficiaries for a first contact, assess their situation and potential MHPSS needs, and create a counselling plan with the individual.
  • Identifies, maps, and facilitates referral pathways for clients in need of mental health specialists, medical care and other humanitarian needs.

Education and Professional Experience required:

  • University degree in psychology (minimum 3 years’ university study).
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience with humanitarian organizations, to include 2-3 years of previous professional experience in mental health, psychosocial support, counselling, social work, or other similar fields.
  • Previous experience facilitating trainings and working with vulnerable groups.
  • Experience supporting victims of the violence.
  • Experience in managing and monitoring teams is an asset.
  • Fluent in English and Arabic language.
  • Intermediate level in report writing and using Excel.
  • Good knowledge of the ICRC mandate, International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and of other humanitarian topics.
  • Good knowledge of the geographically assigned environment.
