Introduction to the country office:
NCA has had a presence in Iraq intermittently since 2003. Most recently, NCA re-opened its country office in North Iraq in 2014 in response to the crisis resulting from the invasion by the IS.
NCA Iraq is implementing a Peace building and gender-based violence (GBV) program designed to facilitate the recovery and reintegration of survivors into their communities and challenge the cultural norms that perpetuate GBV. NCA also works in peace building.
NCA implements its GBV programs in (Alqoush, Hamdaniya, Sinjar Town, Sinjar Mountain, Sinuni, Tel Kaif/Musol , Hatra and Baaj)
Information about the position: NCA is seeking for full-time psychologist to implement activities and support the enhancement/ expansion of the women safe spaces in Ninawa governorate (Al-Hatra) the psychologist will report to the GBV Officer.

Main responsibilities of the psychologist will be:
- Individual Psychological Support for GBV survivors:
- Provide therapy sessions to individual survivors of GBV that have been identified for a specialized service, and which have been referred by case workers and/ or other stakeholders.
- Conduct psychological assessments, including assessment of mental health states, suicide risk assessments and bio-psycho-social.
- Plan and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions (individual and/or group) utilizing appropriate and evidence-based interventions.
- Evaluate the outcomes of interventions and satisfaction survey.
- Provide psychoeducational support sessions to survivor`s family members (if needed).
- Conduct home-to- home visits (if needed) for at risk GBV survivors.
- Support to Women Safe Space and Mobile Team:
- Support case workers and psychosocial workers in designing, recruiting participants for, and leading peer support groups of GBV survivors.
- Support and keep up-to-date a map of existing services to which women, girls, families, and other survivors can be referred. Also, link the severe GBV cases with psychiatrist (when needed).
- As needed, support psychosocial workers in conducting family visits for the purpose of providing additional assessments and support.
- Submit monthly reports to the GBV Officer that summarizes clinical findings and trends, progress summaries, referral activities and indicators.
- Carry out other tasks as assigned by line manager as required.
- The person to be employed must be loyal to Norwegian Church Aid’s Christian values and accept the Code of Conduct of ACT Alliance.
Qualifications/ Personal qualities
- University degree in psychology, counselling and at least two years of relevant area work experience.
- Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of multiple current research and evidence-based practices as the culture and needs of the clients vary.
- Written & verbal proficiency in Arabic languages.
- Good understanding of the local context, especially of the IDP/Returnees situation in Iraq.
- Understanding of core humanitarian standard (CHS), especially protection concepts & approaches.
- Good interpersonal skills, good communication, organizational & analytical skills, and the ability to work well in a team.
- Familiarity of monitoring & evaluation (M&E) instruments & documents is preferable.
- Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities, and to work long hours in project operational area.
- Ability to multitask, handle pressure, improvise, and be a good team player.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
