Job Purpose :
Conduct MH trainings, Determine nature and extent of mental disorder, Prescribe drugs or any type of treatment methods suitable for the patient in addition to talking with patients as well as close family members and help them understand and cope with their problems.

Main Responsibilities :
1. Conduct MH trainings and submit comprehensive training reports and documentation in coordination with the MHPSS Officer concerned.
2. Conduct on-the-job supervision observation for primary health care providers trained on mhGAP when needed and upon mutual agreement.
3. Attend/lead the supervision meetings for the case management teams in the area.
4. Attend regular meetings, working sessions and trainings organized by IMC.
5. Propose and develop training and content to be submitted to MHPSS technical specialist for review and approval.
6. Reports directly to IMC MHPSS Program Officer.
When the psychiatrist is direct service provider.
7. Determine nature and extent of mental disorder and formulate treatment program for the case referred by case management team. Fill in the Care Plan with the rest of the Team.
8. Organize data concerning patient’s family, medical history, and onset of symptoms obtained from patient, relatives, and other sources, such as nurse and general practitioners.
9. Prescribe drugs or any type of treatment methods suitable for the patient in addition to talking with patients as well as close family members and help them understand and cope with their problems.
10. Keep track of patient numbers/cases through IMC outpatient records (OPR), and client files in coordination with the case manager, to be submitted at the end of every month.
11. Write clinical reports and/or case studies related to MHPSS when it’s required.
12. Attend weekly or biweekly case management meetings including the technical meeting with the rest of the multidisciplinary team or case management team.
13. Coordinate directly with IMC MHPSS Technical Unit for technical support and follow up.
14. Refer patients to the nearest MH Hospital when needed upon consultation with the IMC MHPSS Officer, and ensure to receive counter-referral/feedbacks to issue the case.
15. Work with Directorates of Health (DoH) in the respective areas to ensure that WHO essential psychotropic medications are available at community based level in the health facilities in coordination with Health dept. (if Applicable)
16. Maintain regular contacts with MH Partners/DoH MH focal points in the geographical area.
17. Examine patients referred to determine general physical and mental condition, following standard medical procedures.
18. When necessary, order laboratory and other special diagnostic tests by referral, and evaluate data obtained depending on the case.


Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Qualifications :
• Medical degree with psychiatry residency from an acknowledged university with experience/post basic training in Psychiatry.
• Licensed Psychiatrist.
• Completed all necessary registration with the MOH.
• Specialized Training.
• Training and supervision experience required.
• Fluent in spoken Arabic and Kurdish.
• Previous NGO experience is a plus.
• Personal interest in humanitarian work.
• Willing to adhere to clinic/PHC schedule.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
Experience :
– 1+ years’ experience in mental health field (preferred)
Competency :
– English is an asset, Arabic and Kurdish are mandatory.

Other:
Travel on regular basis within KRI areas.
