Prototyping Developer Intern

About The Role

This role is for a software developer, data scientist or customer experience (CX) analyst – to help build software prototypes in the Prototype Lab hothouses. Hothouses are fast paced, wide ranging sessions with a wide range of possible contributions, such as:

• gather requirements from the client and contribute to creating the charter for the hothouse
• participate in hothouses by analysing a business idea and suggesting technical solutions that would demonstrate some aspect of a possible product
• quickly implement these solutions using any appropriate technology, including products from cloud providers such as Azure or Amazon web Services (AWS)
• participate in software demos and presentations to the client, which may be internal to Swiss Re or external
• gather and analyse data from the business domain
• document results in the team Wiki

About The Team

The Prototype Lab is a small team of software developers and architects that tests product ideas by rapidly building prototypes. Based in Zurich and London, recent projects have included claims fraud, API pricing, market segmentation and medical claims data. Work is split between short, intensive hothouses and longer term consultancy.

The skills used to run a hothouse range from CX and UI (User Interface) design, to API development, cloud computing and data analysis. We are open to any of these skills in delivering clickable prototypes that we can demonstrate to clients.

About You

• Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance
• Programming experience in any of the following languages: python, javascript (such as Node.js or Vue), Java or C#
• Interest in cloud computing, especially Azure
• Experience in hackathons or open source development would be highly advantageous
• Approaches problems with curiosity and open-mindedness, is a fast learner
• Team-player, willingness to contribute actively to the overall team spirit
• Ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment
• Aptitude to express yourself effectively in one-on-one conversations and small groups
• Strong analytical skills and can focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
