The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, working in more than 40 countries to provide adequate assistance and protection to refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, returnees, people on the move and local vulnerable population/host communities. DRC is currently looking for a qualified Spanish and English-speaking Protection Specialist for a 11-month contract (renewable depending on funding and performance) based in Bogota, Colombia. This is an opportunity for an experienced protection professional to support DRC’s protection programming in Latin America.

The Protection Specialist will be part of a DRC LAC team implementing a project aiming to strengthening the humanitarian response to mitigate protection risks associated with mixed migration flows and displacement situations in Latin America. The Protection Specialist will provide technical inputs to regional protection analysis, contribute to the roll out of DRC’s LAC protection strategy and support coordination and capacity building initiatives in the region.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify priorities and provides technical assistance for protection programmes.
  • Develop program monitoring tools.
  • Program monitoring as per expected outputs and outcomes.
  • Write donor and project reports.
  • Continuously update project documentation and files.
  • Work closely with the IM Coordinator for Protection Analysis.
  • Review and proofread protection reports (in English and Spanish)
  • Deliver protection trainings.
  • Participate in Protection Needs Assessments.
  • Represent DRC in regional, national, and local protection coordination fora.
  • Support the LAC Protection Manager in ensuring strategic programming coherent with DRC’s operational platforms, strengthening protection programme quality, standards, and learning.
  • Function as LAC Protection Manager during his/her absence.

Technical line: Protection manager, Protection Capacity Building and Learning Specialist. **

EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • A minimum of 3 years of field protection experience working with an INGO or a UN Agency.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience in protection coordination.
  • Experience working with national partners, government authorities and UN bodies.
  • Experience delivering PIM trainings or using the PIM Conceptual Framework is desirable.
  • Experience working with refugees, migrants and asylum seekers.
  • Highly organised and autonomous, able to multi-task and prioritize workload when necessary.
  • Excellent communication, drafting, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong diplomatic skills.

EDUCATION

Advanced university degree in law, international relations, political science, or sociology. Knowledge of international human rights law, humanitarian law or refugee law is desirable. A first-level university degree in combination with relevant experience for this position, especially if working with DRC, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

We offer

Contract length: 11 months renewable depending on performance and funding.

Level: G1 -Non management

Salary: 5,150,000 COP – 5,464,000 COP depending on experience.

This position is open to national Colombian nationals or residents of Colombia with a valid work permit

Designation of Duty Station: Bogota, Colombia.

Start date: As soon as possible not later than 15/05/2022.
