We are looking for an experienced Protection Officer to join Tearfund’s team.

The Protection Officer will cover Tearfund’s work in both Lebanon and Yemen through partners. Under the direct supervision of the Country Director and technical support from the Protection Adviser, is primarily responsible for working alongside partners in their implementation of protection related projects and activities and coordinating with government and other protection key stakeholders. Protection related sectors mainly include and is not limited to the following: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) including staff well-being, Gender Based Violence (GBV), Child Protection (CP), and Safeguarding.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of knowledge; any human behaviour science or international human rights law related courses. A university degree in social work, psychology, counselling, international human rights law, international relations, political science is desirable.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years proven experience working on protection related issues in development or humanitarian environments.
  • Excellent understanding of protection issues in development and emergency situations and detailed knowledge of humanitarian principles, guidelines and laws.
  • Excellent leadership, coordination, capacity building, planning and analytical skills.
  • Excellent advocacy and representation skills including the development of strong interpersonal relationships to facilitate communication within the region
  • Essential knowledge of populations including sensitivities of ethnic and faith groups
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, proven self-initiative and problem solving abilities
  • A commitment to protecting rights and restoration of broken relationships
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Proven ability of working effectively in teams from multicultural contexts
  • Facilitation Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Able to work in a fast moving environment and comfortable with constant change
  • Proven computer literacy, including good knowledge of MS Office and Google Docs
  • Experience in protection related research
  • Good knowledge of donor reporting
  • Emotionally and spiritually mature
  • Commitment to accountability to beneficiaries and transparency, showing dignity and respect, and demonstrating listening and understanding
  • Flexibility, ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Willingness to travel and stay in basic conditions
