Background information/Organizational Context:

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It also has a mandate to help stateless people. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supporting the Protection team with outreach activities and partnership activities
• Drafting letters/emails
• Conducting research
• Compiling statistics
• Attending external meetings and training events as appropriate
• Administrative tasks (filing, taking minutes, etc.)
• Other tasks as may reasonably be required

Minimum qualifications required

• Ability to work as part of a team
• Good analytical and drafting skills
• Strong verbal and written ability in English and Arabic
• Good intercultural communication skills
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and good web skills

Eligibility

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Recent graduate (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member ofUNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.
This appointment is subject to proof of vaccination against Covid-19 with WHO approved vaccine, medical clearance and satisfactory reference checks.

Allowance

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
