About the Job

The Protection Field Officer contributes to the planning, implementation, monitoring and documentation of ICRC Protection activities in the area of responsibility.

This is a national/resident position based in Guriceel, Somalia

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the implementation of protection activities, and particularly related to the Protection of Civilian Population (PCP) programme
  • Conducts field assessments either independently or as part of ICRC multidisciplinary teams focusing on the humanitarian needs of affected populations
  • Contributes to the assessment and identification of protection priority issues in the Area of Responsibility for further monitoring and follow up
  • Provides practical guidance and support to the Protection team on PCP issues
  • Supports detention (DET) and Restoring Family Links (RFL) activities when need be
  • Sensitizes and briefs field staff, SRCS, assistants, local organisations and local authorities on ICRC Protection activities
  • Contributes to an analysis of the general humanitarian situation within the
  • Contributes to the definition of the annual objectives and plans of action of the ICRC Protection department
  • Prepares operational reports and regularly shares an account of ongoing activities

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  • University Degree in Social Science, Development Studies or qualification in a related field of study
  • 4 years of experience in a similar field of activities
  • Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law/International Human Rights Law is an asset
  • Ability to network, represent the institution externally and dialogue with major stakeholders
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Upholds a high sense of responsibility and confidentiality
  • Computer proficiency especially in MS Office suite
