Reports to: Forensic Specialist in Mosul

Duration of Contract: 1-year fixed-term contract (with the possibility of renewal based on needs and performance).

Objective:

Supports the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Forensic humanitarian actions in Ninawa, under the direct supervision of the Forensic Specialist based in Mosul, in emergency and non-emergency situations, intending to guarantee that families and communities have access to quality medico-legal and investigative services. The post’s role is established to reach the objectives set within Forensics’ and Delegation’s overall strategy and operation. It is the interface with communities (local leaders, forensic and health staff, families, etc.), internal (ICRC) and external (local authorities, international organizations, and NGOs) stakeholders on forensic-related issues. The Field Officer also plays an indispensable role in advising and supporting the Forensic Specialist on socio-cultural and religious aspects of the region and its communities mainly regarding practices on the management of the dead, forensic human identification, and the search for missing persons, sharing relevant information related to the context.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Supports the Forensic Specialist in the implementation of the ICRC forensic project and activities in
  • Ninawa.
  • In coordination with the Forensic Specialist, contributes to the design and implementation of forensic
  • activities in Ninawa.
  • Coordinates with the other concerned departments involved in the Ninawa project for the missing.
  • Maintains networks with local stakeholders to ensure the efficient implementation of forensic programs.
  • Represents the ICRC vis-à-vis national authorities and beneficiaries.
  • Helps organize meetings and advises staff members on various matters such as sociocultural and religious
  • aspects related to forensic activities.
  • Communicates and reports both internally and externally on forensic contexts and population needs.
  • Ensures that the necessary administrative and secretarial work is completed on time.
  • Knows, applies, and complies with all the administrative procedures linked to his/her work.
  • Fosters a conducive environment with the Forensic Specialist and colleagues from other departments.
  • Helps to sensitize ICRC staff and relevant external stakeholders on issues related to the ICRC’s
  • humanitarian forensic action.
  • Supports transversal files and forensic topics related to other ICRC Departments within the Delegation.

Education and Professional Experience required:

  • University degree or relevant professional experience in the forensic applied sciences and/or health sector
  • (i.e. medical doctor, nursing, biologist, geneticist, dentist, archaeologist).
  • 3 years of experience in the field of forensic or forensic-related sciences.
  • 1-2 years of experience with humanitarian agencies is an asset.
  • Excellent command of English and Arabic. Translation and transcription abilities. Other regional languages
  • are an asset (e.g. Kurdish).
  • Good connections with local health authorities and/or groups of interest for the ICRC.
  • Excellent knowledge of the assigned geographical area.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Computer literacy (Internet Explorer, MS Word, MS Excel applications).
