Job title: Protection and Safeguarding Coordinator – Türkiye/Gaziantep

Job Purpose:

The Protection and Safeguarding Coordinator is to support and closely monitor the implementation of protection activities and safeguarding policies and procedures of World Vision Syria Response (WVSR) and its partners in Türkiye. S/he will provide technical support and guidance to WVSR staff and local partners to develop, implement, monitor, evaluate, and document the protection strategy and programs for the Türkiye program. The role also involves ensuring that the organization and partners comply with safeguarding and protection standards and that all employees and stakeholders know their responsibilities in promoting the safety and well-being of all children and adult beneficiaries. Based on needs and requests from the Protection Adviser, s/he will support and provide technical inputs to proposal development and liaise with partners, local authorities, and other protection actors on the ground while establishing new protection activities and representing WVSR in relevant clusters/working groups in Türkiye and adhere to their standards and reporting as needed.

Knowledge/ Qualifications for the role:

Technical Program Quality

– With the support of the Protection Advisor, lead and manage the overall implementation of protection activities in Türkiye, ensuring that activities/services are delivered on time, on budget, and in compliance with donor regulations.

– Coordinate with implementing partners in Türkiye to ensure quality Protection activities through regular field visits, coordination meetings with all partners, and ongoing review of implantation plans at the field level.

– Ensure regular communication with the Protection Technical Adviser to integrate appropriate technical priorities in program design/strategy and to provide updates on achievements and challenges.

– In consultation with the Protection Technical Adviser and GAM, support to adapt or adjust project design and implementation in response to emergencies or context changes.

– Work with the MEAL team to support collecting and analyzing protection information, including developing protection needs assessments and using specific M&E tools to monitor project progress and indicators.

– Work with partners to compile and submit donor reports per set schedules on grant activities, indicators, and achievements, with support from the Protection Technical Adviser, GAM, and MEAL.

Networking and External Engagement

– Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at local level, including UNICEF, UNHCR and other protection actors in Türkiye.

– Represent WVSR in relevant protection/child protection coordination forums (CP AoR, GBV AoR, MHPSS Working Group) in Türkiye. Provide feedback/updates of those meetings to the Protection Technical Advisor.

– Participate in internal meetings and coordinate with other program/ sector teams

Capacity Building and Training

– Providing training and support to staff, volunteers, and partner organizations to equip them with knowledge and skills on protection standards and guidance to ensure high-quality programming.

– In consultation with the Protection Technical Adviser, identify and propose training for field staff and partners related to protection topics and best practices.

– Attend internal and external training on protection and related topics to enhance knowledge of different thematic areas and programming approaches.

Child and Adult Safeguarding

– Ensuring that all WVSR employees and affiliates know their responsibilities in promoting the safety and well-being of all children, adults, clients, and beneficiaries in WVSRs operational area in Turkiye.

– Supporting to create a conducive environment for reporting of safeguarding incidents by staff, volunteers, partners, other affiliates, and members of project communities.

– Investigating safeguarding concerns, ensuring appropriate action is taken to protect children and beneficiaries, and ensuring that safeguarding concerns are reported and recorded per organizational policies and procedures.

– Work with the Protection Technical Adviser to ensure the Annual Safeguarding report submission and timely action planning.

Required Professional Experience:

  1. At least 4 years of experience in protection and safeguarding programming in a humanitarian, development, or human rights context.
  2. Experience in developing and implementing protection programs and safeguarding policies and procedures, including risk assessments, case management, psychosocial support, and reporting and referral mechanisms.
  3. Understanding of the local contexts and experience in working with the relevant ministries, donors and local actors in protection programs in Türkiye is desired.
  4. Experience building capacity and training staff, volunteers, and partner organizations on protection and safeguarding issues.
  5. Experience in providing technical inputs on protection, child protection and/or GBV proposal design and development.
  6. Experience in working with vulnerable populations, such as refugees, displaced persons, women, children, and marginalized communities.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including identifying risks and developing appropriate responses.
  8. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant field such as social work, international development, human rights, or a related field.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of international protection standards, human rights principles, and relevant legal frameworks.
  2. Experience in conducting safeguarding investigations into protection concerns and ensuring appropriate action is taken to protect clients or beneficiaries.
  3. Experience in building relationships with external partners, such as government agencies, NGOs, and UN agencies, to ensure a coordinated response to protection concerns.

Domestic travel only

This position is based in Gaziantep

Language Requirements

English & Turkish are essential. Arabic is a Plus.
