Protection and Human Trafficking Adviser

  • International UK

Fluent French and English speaker required

Location: London office

  • 25% of the time international travel to Africa.

Contract type: Fixed Term 9 Months – likely to be renewed.

Hours per week: 35 Salary: Up to £34,344 (including London Weighting of £3,344 if applicable)

How you’ll make a difference…

Your role will be vital in helping to meet the needs of vulnerable migrants and host communities.

You’ll provide expert technical, operational and capacity-building support to the Sahel Migration programme and its partner country teams with regards to the protection and human trafficking activities (including – protection mainstreaming, human trafficking and exploitation, support on child protection and sexual and gender-based violence needs) related to the humanitarian assistance along the Africa migration routes.

You’ll work and coordinate with the Sexual & Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) team to create synergies between our works and ensure the adoption of a consistent and safe approach to the SGBV work.

What you’ll be doing…

Advice And Guidance

  • Technical support to volunteers, social workers, migration task force
  • Draw from sector knowledge, Regional and International legislation and policy to develop and inform the Sahel migration programme delivery
  • Ensure that protection, Gender and Inclusion minimum standards are well implemented with the Sahel migration programme

Programme Implementation

  • Offer support to partners within the SAHEL migration programme – monitor and evaluate outputs and outcomes
  • Contribute to developing awareness raising messages and strategies on human trafficking and other protection risks among people on the move.
  • Lead the training and coaching activities on protection mainstreaming, minimum protection approach and human trafficking.

What you’ll bring to the role…

  • Fluent French and English speaker (please confirm in your personal statement)
  • Extensive knowledge of current migration issues and migrants’ needs as well as protection and human trafficking risks, particularly with respect to West, East and North Africa
  • Strong capacity assessment and development skills, including remote capacity assessment and workshop facilitation skills
  • Strong knowledge of the international humanitarian protection standards, including in the context of migration
  • Strong knowledge of international and regional human trafficking frameworks

About The Team…

As a member of the International Directorate you will be part of a directorate responsible for BRC’s international humanitarian response and disaster management, support to resilience programmes and organisational development of our partner Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world.

The work of the International Directorate also includes humanitarian policy and advocacy activities and upholding and promoting International Humanitarian Law. British Red Cross’ international work is carried out in coordination and partnership with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
