The Protection Analyst reports directly to the Protection Team Leader.
Responsibilities
– Is responsible for the Protection Office research and analysis output that enable further
planning, decision-making and enhancing protection activities; manages the research and
analysis and the radio room teams, ensuring quality work through their career building and
development; assesses data tools and processes in place, identifies areas for enhancement,
makes proposals for improvement and follows up their implementation.
– Responsible for the collection, visualization, management and analysis of the gathered
protection related data and information, ensuring appropriate verification and accuracy of
information collected; ensures the team have effective and harmonized tools to facilitate
information sharing and analysis.
– Drafts reports (internal and external) on all projects in humanitarian principles and
protection, while contributing to the annual, mid-term and all other reports as required, in
addition to UNRWA Protection Division reports, including but not limited to overseeing the
publication of regular protection reporting such as all WBFO Protection reports.
– Drafts inputs for the Protection Office reports of international human rights mechanisms,
UN, donors, and responses to all ad hoc requests regarding international human rights and
protection issues, the living conditions of Palestine refugees, their access to services provided
by UNRWA and its partners, and humanitarian principles issues.
– Regularly reviews UNRWA’s collected information, tracks, and monitors trends, and
prepares the information in formats appropriate for presentations, advocacy and briefings such
as power point presentations, graphs and charts.
– Monitors and analyses current events, public opinion, and press, identifies issues and trends,
and advises the department on opportunities to focus monitoring and promote advocacy in
accordance with the Field and Protection Division strategies and in reporting.
– Provides operational support for humanitarian principles work, including the carrying out of
analysis, monitoring, reporting and assessments, particularly to address gaps in humanitarian
and emergency operations in the Field.
– Responsible for coordination work to ensure accuracy of statistical information exchanged
with other UN system actors in the Field.
– Contributes to advocacy and visibility activities including drafting of social media content,
reviewing media and other public outputs for accuracy; analyses the impact of materials
published, while monitoring and reporting on feedback., in addition to reviewing and/or
developing and gaining approval for effective relevant work plans which support Field and
Protection Office requirements, including private and public advocacy efforts with duty
bearers and other key factors.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational
institution in international relations, public administration, human rights, law, communication,
journalism, humanities or other related disciplines.
Job Specific Qualifications
Work Experience
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational
institution in international relations, public administration, human rights, law, communication,
journalism, humanities or other related disciplines is required.
At least five years of responsible and relevant experience in research, analysis, drafting
official reports and presenting information and data in a clear and instructive manner,
preferably on humanitarian and human rights issues is required.
Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least
two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the
country(s) of citizenship is required.
Possession of a valid international driving license is desirable.
Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English is required.
Working knowledge of Arabic and/or Hebrew is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be
followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Type of Contract and duration: 1 year, project funded with the possibility of further extension.
